Nothing specific, but just a clearinghouse of info and general hobby discussion.

I definitely wouldn't object. It might not be 100% necessary, but it would be nice to get all the handgun and rifle cruffle stuff into the same spot.
Seeing as I recently got bitten by the crufflebug, I'd probably check it every 5 minutes for something new. :)

I think Parallax serves that niche pretty well. There's a huge knowledge base over there on every kind of C&R you can imagine.

I'm thinking that I'd like to make this available on a single board. There are many C&R boards out there and it can be hard to follow. If we had a C&R section here, we could spend a little less effort keeping track of them all since each could contribute some interesting info from all the others, to follow up as we choose.

Oh, since so many don't know what a "cruffler" is, it is a holder of an 03 FFL, curio and relics license, which allows for an individual to collect guns 50 years old or more (so long as they aren't NFA) or specially designated by the BATF as "C&R" w/o having to transfer through a dealer.

Seems to me that the cruffler items are covered fine with the existing layout.

Considering that I just sent my application and $30 to the good folks at the BATFE, I'm in.

I'd read and post in it, but I think Gunboards takes care of it all. I voted "yes" anyway, though.

I don't care.
I know, I know I'm a big traitor and should be flogged with a handful of my Mosin slings. But what good would it serve? Would anyone stop checking out the rifle and handgun forums if there were a dedecated C&R forum? I wouldn't. I kinda like reading about everyone's new fangled tactical bangsticks.

Isn't out firearms research forum pretty similar?

Oleg,
Well, it is, and it isn't. I thought the Reseach forum was more for identifying specific guns and such, not for talking about the best sources for K-31s and M39s, what loads to use in a M1 and so on. Am I wrong?

I m just trying to undestand...why not ask load questions in "Handloading" and mecahnical questions in "Rifles"?

I voted for it, as a new cruffler.
Oleg, you might have a point that each technical aspect of collecting curios and relics could be addressed in existing forums; but the overall topic of collecting such has a sort of cache to it as well.

edited to add the fact that there are already many other C&R forums out there, as discussed in this thread: http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=47220
But none as good as THR, of course :D

Parallax forums consist of something like 30 categories. How could we organize ours to avoid such fragmentation and overlap with the existing forums. For example, if I have SMLE questions, do I check Rifles or Cruffler sub-forum? We are trying to avoid sub-dividing unless absolutely necessary...so make a case for the new forum.

Our C&R forum should be general, not specific, or we can't offer what special interest C&R forums can about each model.
Like I said before, a clearinghouse. Someone can bounce questions about which Enfield shoots better, what Moisin-nagant rifles are most collectable, which Schmidt-Rubins can take modern ammo, etc. and get an answer or a pointer in the right direction to one of those specialist forums.

I look at a lot of the C&R forums and find that they are a lot less populated than THR. I'd like to see a general C&R forum here that would have the viewership of all the members here. This could also lead some people here who don't know about C&R firearms into a new hobby. I have no main group of C&R I collect and just like the interesting pieces, so a general group could let us know about new things, and I mean pistols, and rifles. I like others don't have LOTS of computer time and the majority of it is spent on THR. I'd like to see it here. Main reason there should be a new section though is because once a week at least there is a thread on what is C&R and when it is answered someone always sends in $30 and joins the ranks of C&R holders. This would give them the chance to answer that question, find out info and ask questions all on THR.

I see C&R's as my religion, and posting in a C&R forum is just preaching to the choir. I must testify to the masses. Bring more into the fold. Can I get an Amen?:D

I'm with Okie on this one.
If one posts a question or announces a new acquisition in the appropriate existing forum here. It will get attention, comments and answers.
Whether rifle of antiquity or handgun from Gramp's estate....so far they have been fittin right in.
Sam....over qualified for C&R; my body that is.

I voted "I don't care."
I don't think it's needed, but if it were available, I'd check it out. Right now I only go to Gunboards/Parrellax/whatever when I have a very specific detail I want to find out about.
Uh, Okiecruffler . . .Amen! :D

I think we have plenty of forums as it is.
Cruffler Rifles? We've got a forum for those.
Cruffler Pistols? We've got forums for them, too.
I think this desire to have tiny little exclusive areas for each and every sub-faction of the firearms using world is why our grandchildren won't be able to own firearms... :uhoh:

As a non-cruffler, I really enjoy the C&R posts. I've learned a lot about cruffling in just the past month (I'm a THR n00b). In fact, I'm even thinking of joining up in Okie's cult. Had all of the cruffle-threads been buried in some small cruffle-corner I probably wouldn't be so close to cruffle-conversion as I am now.
The poll results are skewed due to the fact that you either:
1. Think a C&R forum is a good idea
2. Think a C&R forum is a wast of bandwidth (as opposed to just not necessary), or
3. You don't know what a cruffler is

Ok, I see the reasons for keeping it like it is. I guess the main thing that would be nice, and I don't think it is possible, is to do a search of all groups on THR. then you could kind of see it all in one group. On the other hand I really don't think that it is a waste of bandwidth. C&R consists of rifles, shotguns, pistols, and revolvers. So thats 4 different forums for 1 subject. Kinda like Cowboy action shooting, they would fit into at least 3. After reading the coments here I'm fine the way it is or would read a C&R group if it was there too. I don't think that it is a micro segmentation that will lead to people not being able to own firearms because these same people also 9 times out of 10 enjoy modern firearms also. I do understand where that comment comes from however. Ok now that I look I see I can do a search of the whole site. My mistake for not looking hard enough.

Sorry, have been busy. We won't have a Cruffler forum as so many of the topics are covered in the existing forums, and Cruffler+Parrallax forums get the rest.
