I got a mossberg 500a 20ga shotgun from my dad and I'm looking for a turkey choke for it. Does anybody what type of choke these take? I tried one for a 20 ga 500, but it would not fit the 500a barrel.:confused:

A 500a is a 12 gauge. A 20 gauge choke won't often fit a 12 gauge barrel.

Check your local gun store or sporting goods shop for a 12 gauge Accu-Choke choke tube. They're common.

My wifes Mossberg is 500c, double check your digits. I have found the best place to find chokes online is Gun Broker or Auction Arms. If yo choose to look where you nomaly purchase your firearms, The gun shops around here have a bin with a bunch of used or left after purchase chokes.

Take your barrel with you to the store and find the one that correctly fits. Do NOT force it, or you'll cross-thread it and then none will fit and a trip to the smith to correct that will be in order

All Mossberg 500 choke tubes should be the same.

They will also interchange with

Sounds like this may have already happened once.

Mossberg 500's work like this:

500A = 12-gauge
500B = 20-Gauge
500C = .410
590* = 12-gauge, similar with many interchangeable parts but not identical to 500A. I added an asterisk there because there are a few different 590 models but the difference in the accessories not the basic gun as far as i know.
535 = 3.5" Chamber, pretty sure only 12-gauge is offered, this is a sporting gun
835 = 3.5" Chamber, Over-bored Barrel, 12-gauge with 10-gauge nominal bore diameter.
505 = 500 models in youth sizes

I hope that helps you figure out your model #'s. I believe some choke tubes are available directly from Mossberg. Also PLEASE do not buy one of the chokes that looks like a hole saw, by buying one you encourage them to design and sell more.

It's ok Bad Hammer, I just learned this last year and now I own all four. Wish they had made the 500D, that would be sweet to have all five.
