Shot .460 Rowland 3" today

Went to the range over lunch to give the S&W model 625 3" Clark conversion a try. WOW! :what: Grip tape on the exposed grip frame was not one of my better ideas. Two hunks of skin were removed from the web of my hand on the first shot. Luckily, I had the range to myself, so I went to the car and retrieved a glove. Ahhh... much better. I put another 30 rounds through her and called it a day. Overall not too bad...but I have to admit that recoil anticipation was a factor after that first shot, and my accuracy was....just OK. Recoil was not much more intense than my old Ruger BH in .44 mag, but new grips are definately called for. Ammo was Georgia Arms 230 grn Gold Dot HP (1350 fps). I'll take another shot at improving my accuracy after I get some better grips....and maybe work up some milder loads. Great fun though!

What actually had to be converted by Clark? I thought .460 was hot rodded 45 ACP? Sounds like a pretty mean lil piece.

Big G -The cylinder was reamed to accomodate the longer .460 R case. The brass is 1/16th inch longer than .45acp, while OAL is the same. The case wall of the .460 is thicker as well. You wouldn't think the difference would be THAT significant... but it is.

Thanks, bud, I haven't kept up all that well with these "new" wunderpatronen. Guess it's the .45 Super that is the 45 ACP in a thicker case.

I'll probably shoot .45acp in it 90% of the time....but it's kinda nice to have a big bore power option included in the package. Plus, I like the single caliber concept.

So what you've got, in effect, is the same relationship between a 44 Magnum and a 44 Special, except in 45 caliber flavor. Cool!

You know, you could do the same thing with a 45Colt and a 454Casull. :D

Yes YOU can. All you want. But I ain't gonna touch off a .454 in a standard N-frame.
