i see ruger makes 2 different mags however all the high capacity clip makers say their 10/22 clips can be used in 77/22s. whats the difference can you use them in a 77/22?

The 77-22 mags are flat on the bottom, the 10-22 mags are rounded on the bottom to match the contours of the bottom of the rifles. I have used them interchangeably in the past with no function problems. The flat bottom 77-22 mags could be difficult to grasp when removing them from a 10-22 because they do not protrude far enough to get a grip on. I have read of others having feeding problems when using the wrong mags but I never had any problems.

If you look very carefully at the magazine well of this 10/22, you'll see a slight, angled line of color that is the stock. The magazine in the rifle is a 77/22 magazine. It came with the rifle when I bought it used. Since I have two 77/22's it wasn't a big deal to me. I just bought a 10/22 magazine for it a few days later. (JMR40 has already explained the difference.) The 10/22 magazine sticks out the bottom of a 77/22 about the same ammount.

One has worked as well as the other for me also.
