Got this flare gun. My grandfather brought it back from Europe in 1945. What exactly is it, and what is it worth? The family has NO attachment to it and we will sell it. (My grandfather was not attached to it. We have other stuff we will never sell)

Looks like a Luftwaffe model SLd, first made by Walther. They were made in stainless and aluminum. Some research says these were also used by U-boat crews. In a quick search these have sold at militaria auctions for well over $1000, some have said over $2k. (This is completely dependent upon condition, rarity etc.)

You'll need to join this site to see all the pics but there is someone else with your exact model on this thread: http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=22646

Bonhams' sold one in Nov. 2008 for $800. http://www.proxibid.com/asp/CatalogPrint.asp?aid=15379
