Need Instruction on Walther PP

Just received my first C&R, a Manhurin Walther PP. It is a cool little gun and in excellent shape. I can't wait to shoot her. I know how to disassemble the gun, but I have a few more questions.

1. I've heard when de-cocking the hammer that I should use my thumb to restrain the hammer. Reason given was to avoid damage. Is this true?

2. Once I de-cock the safety is pointed down. When I disengage the safety the trigger "cocks". If I then reengage the safety (with the trigger in the forward position) is it safe or will it damage the gun?

3. When looking at the back of the slide. There is a tiny hole with a small pin floating in it. Is this a loaded chamber indicator?

Thanks,
tjg

1) If you can do it without violating rule #2, sure.

2) You can re-apply the safety without hurting anything.

3) Yup, that's a loaded chamber indicator.

It is just about impossible to damage the PP/PPK by dropping the hammer using the safety. That is not necessarily true of the wartime P.38.
