Are coyotes furbearers? Their has been one coming around our chickens and I scared him away once. Can I kill it or would that be poaching?

Dunno about Ohio, but in Montana the question would be, "What? It's not dead already?"

Yep, they're a furbearer alright. Not worth much at the moment, however.

typically to kill yotes you'll need some form of a hunting license.. here the furbearer licenses are around $6... however, depredation is another matter, and depending on your state, you may not need a license at all.

in sd, the laws regarding coyotes and coyote hunting are extremely loose - i would imagine they are in your locale as well.

Ring up the Fish and Game, or what ever it's called in Ohio, guys and ask 'em. Sounds like a clear case of defending the brood, so to speak. You may wel need a licence to shoot it though.

A regular Ohio Hunting License is all you need. NO limit;no closed season.

You shouldn't even need the license if its around your chickens. You just don't want to go taking the hide (or eating it in cases like deer). If your going to be doing a lot of it you'll want to see about a depredation permit. I wouldn't worry too much though.

I've seen coyotes near a car dealership (Mountainview Subaru) on the outskirts of Keene, NH.

Are any of you from this area, and do you think you could show a new guy how it's done?
