Has anyone tried to attach

It looks like it should work, just wondering if anyone had any better ideas.

Ah, you mean the forearm? ..not much room on the bottom of the receiver between the pistol grip, the trigger guard, and the magazine for anything else...

bipods are all about stability. putting one under the receiver is not your best option. putting one at the end of barrel will give you a much more stable gun. it will also reduce your accuracy a bit by messing with the barrel harmonics. but, that's the way they come in standard military issue...

The only thing I have seen remotely like describe would be the Kel Tec RFB.

Ah, you mean the forearm? ..not much room on the bottom of the receiver between the pistol grip, the trigger guard, and the magazine for anything else... No, not attached to the wooden forearm. I mean attaching one to the receiver between the wood and the mag. Similar to the RFB as TheBookGuy indicated, but not attached to the barrel (although that's an idea, right at the base like that).

I was thinking about drilling a hole and attaching a quick release sling mount for a Harris Bipod, maybe reinforced with a square of steel on both the inside and outside.

Not only do they mess with the harmonics, but the pressure will move your POI up so I'd probably have to rezero if I add or remove it. Might not be such a big deal on a bull barrel, but the PSL has a very light barrel, like a Mini-14.

I have one on my psl, functions great, I will post pics when I get off work. Here is what I used to attach it after removing the lower handguard, much more stable than on the actual reciever.

How do you guys figure the handguard is a more stable mounting point than the receiver?

not much room on the bottom of the receiver between the pistol grip, the trigger guard, and the magazine for anything elseI just measured mine. There's about 2" of receiver between the magwell and the handguard. There's about 3/8" of space in there to insert a piece of steel. Drill and tap into the steel insert to thread the mount into and put another piece (or maybe a short piece of rail) on the outside to sandwich the receiver between them.

Here's mine with the bipod mounted on the handguard. I am getting 2.5" groups @ 300 yards with this set up and Bulgarian 148gr .54R. Bipod works good to me on the handguard by balancing the weight. It would be off balance if mounted on the reciever...just my opinion though.

Thanks for posting the pics Ed. Nice rifle.

I am getting 2.5" groups @ 300 yards with this set up and Bulgarian 148gr .54R.That's a really nice result and good shooting. Better than 1MOA. What year is that ammo? I've heard before that '53 factory 10 Bulgarian is very accurate.

Did you do anything to accurize that rifle?

It would be off balance if mounted on the reciever...just my opinion though.Good point. I was concerned about that too. I've seen some SVDs with bipods mounted just in front of the magazine, and I've seen some with an extension pushing it further forward. I'm thinking that a short piece of rail might put it just under the rear edge of the handguard. I'll need to do some experimenting and see.

I do have some of the 1953 factory ten ammo, but thats not what I used. For my best grouping, it was the 1987 factory ten believe it or not. The Czech silver tip is also a very close contender and in most accuracy tests has out shot the 7n1 "sniper" ammo. If I recall the day I got the 2.5" grouping, it was a warm 90 degree day with little if any wind.

Did you do anything to accurize that rifle?

No, the rifle is almost entirely stock. I did have my 'smith smooth the trigger but other than that and me refinishing the wood pieces, everything is as is. Scope is an 8x POSP from Kalinka Optics.

I dunno I think it'd be a little to far back if it were on the receiver. I had a bipod that clamped on the barrel of my AK just in front of the gas block. I didn't like it on the quad rail hand guard I have because it forced me to move my foregrip back and made it harder to get the mags in and out. Eventually I figured it was kinda pointless and seemed to jump around a lot when I fired it on the bipod. I think that was mostly my fault for not gripping it as much as I would have if I had to support it. I took it off and stuck it in the closet in case I ever decide to try it again. I recently seen a very nice gizmo where the bipod is stored in the handle of the foregrip. For about 20 more than i gave for foregrip and bipod I could have got that. But then i'd have to find somewhere else to put the contents of my cleaning kit that got displaced when I changed the stock out. (i put them along with some cleaning patches in the hollow handle of the foregrip)

Edit: yall guys make me jealous with the PSL's I have always liked those and wanted one, one day i'll find one.

Edit: yall guys make me jealous with the PSL's I have always liked those and wanted one, one day i'll find one. I'm the same way. I had been looking for one for years every time I went to a gun show or store. I finally just ordered one from AIM and transferred it to a local dealer last week. I'm very glad I did.

these guns seem to be getting kinda popular. For a while they were hard to get, everyone was sold out and some folks were selling them for way more than they were worth. Before that were a lot of poor parts kit builds and then the big recall on them due to the ATF getting their panties in a wad about a third hole in the receiver. However, now the Romanian made ones seem plentiful and the price is just as low as its ever been. Seems like a good time to buy one.
