Hi, I am trying to get into mussle loading and I have a question about the Pedersoli Brutus Model 94 and/or the Pedersoli Brutus Ovation.

I noticed that there was some discussion about these guns a while back so I am hoping to get some info from someone who has handled it.

I live in Washington State and here they do not allow the use of 209 pirmers, we have to use a #11. The discripiton of the gun on the Cabela's website says that it is set up for a 209 but I was wondering if it is possible to modify the set up to use a #11 nipple.

From the picture it seems like it could be a very simple and quick fix as long as the mounting for the 209 primer is the type that screws in and out. In my head the process goes like this: Screw out the 209 nipple, screw in the #11 nipple and ta-da it is leagal for Washington.

I can't find anybody around here who even knows of this gun let alone if that is possible. If anybody could give me an answer, some insight or tips I would appreciate it. Thanks

The part is shown in the thumbnails below.
I'm not saying that it can't be done but I wouldn't recommend doing any conversion.

I just returned one to Cabela's. Poor metal finish, breath on it and it rusts. I had the model with the "tacky" stock, was more like flypaper. I wouldn't try converting to #11 but it's your gun, experiment away.

Arcticap, thanks for the pictures. Does the 209 cap go into the hole and then the swivel mechanism swings down to close over it? Is the knob on the swivel the firing pin?

Hi Ersabow,
Yes and yes.
That's a firing pin and where the 209 primer goes.
It's not my rifle so I haven't inserted a 209 in it to see how it fits.
The action is nice, the safety is a little tight and the stock has a very tacky rubber coating that is very funky in places. Everything sticks to it and it covers the cheap quality wood used for the stock.

Ersabow-

I don't believe that gun would be legal in Washington (or Oregon or Idaho either, AFAIK), no matter what you used for ignition.

Your regs defining muzzleloaders:

http://wdfw.wa.gov/wlm/game/hunter/huntregs2009.pdf

'Ignition is to be wheel lock, matchlock,
flintlock, or percussion using original style
percussion caps that fit on the nipple and
are exposed to the weather. "Exposed to
the weather" means the percussion cap or
the frizzen must be visible and not capable
of being enclosed by an integral part of the
weapon proper. Primers designed to be
used in modern cartridges are not legal.'

The cap has to be exposed, which pretty much precludes any design with a door, and/or where the hammer doesn't strike the cap directly.
