I know there are some who will not agree, but homemade weapons are not a good idea in this P.C. day and age. There are so many nice everyday tools that have a legitimate use and reason to be on your person, that to make something with sole end of a weapon is asking for a stay in the house of many doors.

I got a real good lesson in that a few years ago.

The better half and I went for a walk in a local wooded park with our welsh corgi. As we were getting to the parking lot to leave, a off leash pit bull attacket our corgi. I had a very stout hornbeam hiking staff, and used it to come down on the pits head with everything I had. It caved in the pit bulls skull, killing it, and the owner, a young shaved headed guy with a barbwire tatoo around his neck put me in a position of having to defend myself against him as well. He came running over in a rage, yelling that he was going to kill me for hitting his dog. Never mind that our corgi was in need of many stiches from the pit bull attack. The police took statements from other witnesses that were in the parking lot and saw what went on, and on the release from the hospital, the pits owner was charged with a few things. He responded by sueing me for the death of his dog, and the hospital bills for the damage to his ribs and broken collar bone.

When it came up into the court, the judge heard the case in the pre-trial motions, and he (the judge) tossed the case out for reason that 1. I was acting in self defense, and 2. most important, my hiking staff was not a "prepared weapon" and therefor not indicating mallice and intent to do harm. Those were the judge's own words; not a prepared weapon indicating intent to harm. Think about it. I did.

Lots of people make up these spiked bats, lead loaded sticks, homemade saps, but in the end I think in the wrong conditions, it's a jail sentence waiting to happen. Or even a law suit you will lose.

I tell people don't carry anything you won't be ashamed of it it's held up in front of a jury. Things can come back and bite you in the butt.

With all the canes, walking sticks, Maglite flashlights, screw drivers, metal pens, compact lockblade knives, box cutters, why take the chance. And if theres a 4 AA cell Maglite next to your car seat, so what.

Be very careful out there.

it all depends on what specificaly your looking for clubs knives swords slaps etc because all of these and more have been handcrafted by THR members

are you talking about a high quality nice piece that you can take pride in crafting? or a jailhouse down and dirty get the job done once and throw away type deal?

i look at things a bit differently sometimes as i generaly see a weapon like aplication to alot of things in everyday life at school i cant carry my firearm on campus same goes for my regular pocket knife etc... but they cant keep me from having my keys that happen to have a long key "chain" or a leather bag full of change with long draw cord most of my books are hard bound and have nice corners and i wont leave home without my mini maglight and zebra 701 pen improvisation isnt for stand up comedians any more

Actually, what sort of thing did you have in mind? And by chance are you also a teen?

Where do you live (a lot of McGiever type weapons are banned in a lot of jurisdictions - even some that are gun friendly)?

What did you have in mind? I'm pretty familiar with hand crafted as well as discrete items usable as weapons. If you can be a little more specific, I could probably help you out.

Another thing to consider is that most hand weapons require extensive training to be even remotely effective. Is this a passing curiosity or a serious desire for self defense? Is there a reason you are avoiding a gun / knife? Like I said, I'd be happy to help if you can be a little more specific about what you want.

Half the fun for me was figuring out for myself.
I learnt to weld as a kid just to make throwing stars, so I'm not writing up a "How to" for setting up a welding torch and I don't think you need a "How to" on putting a can of cola in a plastic bag?

Your question's too vague, Jiopopp.... Several forum members (myself included) have posted details on how we've made many weapons, from spears to stars to daggers to clubs, sticks and saps.

Search up the Amateur Knife Making threads, Bikerdoc's made a bunch of stick-making threads (a stick is a much more potent weapon than most know), conwict has recently made a sap/coinpurse weapon, again with instructions for your own.

You're asking people here for homemade weapon ideas. These people see weapons everywhere, from the coffee cup on my desk to the anglo-saxon spear in my bedroom....

A weapon is whatever tool you lay hand on for offence or defence. Give us half a clue, and we've got ideas for you.

Let's see... I once took an old 18" pinata bat and drilled about 2.5" into it with a flat wood bit, then I melted a very large lead sinker into the tip using a blowtorch, and finished it off with some black enamel. Unfortunately the lead tip flew out the front while I was hitting my punching bag, so in retrospect, I probably should have provided it with some anchoring, like a screw.

I figured right when I saw the subject line of the thread, must be a male between 13-17. Too young to buy manufactured weapons, but still old enough to feel a need for them.

Teens seem to have a drive towards purpose-built weaponry. The object's design gives it that allure of "power." But it also is in danger of becoming a "talisman," that is, a tool that gives a false sense of security. I was just at a mall a few hours ago at a cutlery shop, watching a group of 14 year olds enviously ogling the cheap Taiwanese balisongs and ninja throwing stars, completely ignoring the plain looking but much better made folders nearby where I stood. One of them furiously twirled a balisong and sent it flying across the aisle.

So many teens want something that is "badass." I used to be like that. In time I learned you just don't need things like that, they're for show. Don't be so blinded by what's cool that you miss what is actually useful. So many common items, as many here have pointed out, make perfectly usable and very effective weapons.

One of the main reason's we ask what you had in mind is that there are many facets to this. Are you looking for a carry weapon for self-defense? Something to keep in the house? A way to make a survival hunting item for emergencies? A deadly enough device you can make with limited resources so you can "get even" with someone who wronged you?

Only some of those we can help with, for obvious reasons. This ain't The Anarchist Cookbook (which, mind, was written by an angry 19 year old).

Kinda what I was thinking. I just couldn't think of a way to say it without coming off as being rude. Learn you're local laws. Get a good folding knife that conforms to the law without being too flashy. Oddly enough, Walmart is a good place to start. Then get a 2AA aluminum flashlight with a pocket clip to carry when you can't have the knife with you.

boy oh boy.... I made a lot of 'just for fun' weapons in my younger days.... but I sure can't recommend most of them to anyone with a clear conscience.... man, we were bored out there in the sticks.... lucky no one was ever killed... one lost an eye, and one lost a small chunk of his ear, I had to dig chunk of brass out of my thumb....

Seriously, I'd tell you some good ones, but your dad would come and kick my a double s (rightly so).

This is, however, the internet.... I'm sure you'll find something (probably more stupid than what we did)... be really really careful.... and keep in mind that anything with fire/explosives might well be illegal and get you in way more trouble than a lot of other things you could do to end boredom...

Here are some ideas. Some of them are probably illegal in your area, so your responsibility is to figure out that whole side to things and of course to be responsible.

-Coin purse sap, this is pretty easy if you have a guy who can supply and sew leather. You can just buy a 25"x3" piece of leather and tell the guy to sew it longways into a fancy pouch. Don't make it too shoddy looking, since the point is to have people believe it is purpose-built for coin holding.

-Blackjack
Easy, cheap way
Get a fishing sinker 6oz or more with a hole on the end, thread nylon 550 cord through the hole, then thread that through an extension spring or compression spring, then wrap the whole mess in duct tape...done.
For a bit better final product, you can melt down your own lead (toxic and disfiguring, be careful) and pour it into a mold, then dip the spring in, and of course can have it wrapped in quality leather by your guy. I like a rawhide lanyard too.

I like making little split ring kubotans with leather or paracord wrap for keychains. 5/8"x5.5-6" seems to work best. Drilled or undrilled, countersink the holes for knots if you want a more professional look.

Here are some often overlooked improvised options: dog rawhide chew (smaller sizes work great, on up to bigger sizes, just make sure there is a reason for having it, i.e. a dog), screwdriver in pocket...walking stick is always a favorite if you can bring it around with you, but I'm not someone who likes to walk with a cane when I can carry a gun unless I'm walking the dog or in the woods.

Not sure I agree with not using or having homemade kit, but your experience with a stick should open some eyes.
Use anything to defend yourself and you're open for an expensive law suit.

I used to make slings when I was a teenager, very powerful weapon and can be fairly accurate if you practice enough.

Also if you have the equipment take a railroad spike cut the head off the top end, then drill a couple of holes near the end of the blunt end and make them into one long hole with some filing or cutting or both. Polish it up nice and shiny then sharpen the sharp end a bit. Not to cut though, still keep it a bit dull. Take a very strong piece of rope, maybe climbing rope, and tie it through the end with the hole. Keep it a few feet long and you have an extremely powerful projectile. This is a very dangerous weapon though, so be very careful if you play with it or practice.

I tend to agree with 'HOMECLIP'.
A few Pool/Snooker balls in a STRONG sock would put ANY jerk on the ground.I KNOW.I served time for it.(oooh aren't I 'tough'?)
For all you American Folks out there, check out the '3 Poolballs In A Sock' scene in a film called 'Scum' (1979) with Ray Winstone.

Before I knew better I carried a roll of silver nickels wrapped in black electrical tape. Today it would get you in big trouble back in Rural Arkansas in the early 1980's it got me out of a few jams. Knees and elbows are always with you.

Walking sticks or canes are legal on planes, trains & federal buildings and probably one of the best weapons and oldest known. Easy to learn and the level of force needed can easily be applied. Try to get fancy and you will get hanged, learn to improvise weapons are all around you.

Here is a homemade weapon: Cast Iron Skillet. Anything can be fashioned into a weapon, if you get resourceful enough. Now if you're asking me how to make homemade explosives, I'd have to kindly tell you what little I do know, I am not sharing.

I can't even begin to touch on all the weapons you can employ in a home. The id on the toilet as a blunt object, the playstation wire as a garrote... there is no end.

I assure you, a kid, especially a two year old, going through the "terrible" phase is...err...well...something to be reckoned with.

-Folks give a wide berth in stores, and in parking lots to these...these...kids.

-Criminals Do Not want any attention drawn to them, and "terrible two's definitely draw attention.

-Remember folks, distance is your friend. Ask any parent, grandparent, babysitter, etc. YOU cannot get far enough away from a kid, doing the terrible-two...err..."bit".

As far as improvised weapons go...if you can't look at an object and not figure out a way to hurt someone with it.....well quite frankly you're not trying hard enough.

Pick up a random object. Hit yourself with it. Did that hurt? Yes, then it would probably hurt someone else. No, then pick up next item.

And just to play to the OP. A hammer handle secreted up the sleeve makes an effective equalizer.
