Whatever religion you belong to, you know that if you fail to teach just ONE generation of that religion, it is dead and gone.

We know if we fail to teach just ONE generation about guns, hunting, shooting, that will be dead and gone.

And yet-----
I just attended a ceremony honoring a National Guard unit that has just been deployed to the sand dunes. That is an activity filled with emotion, patriotism, civic responsibilty, community activism, family ties, history, government, constitution, social studies, geography and a host of other valuable educational goals and opportunities. The local school sent a Jr. ROTC group, but outside of that, the school did not participate. I submit to you that EVERY student in the district should have participated! What a VALUABLE activity and source for teaching so, SO many worthwhile things! Are we just one generation away from losing all of that?

Why did the school not participate? Lack of interests? Too much trouble? Too busy teaching toward the 'state mandated standardized tests', or what??

Guess I'm just too old and crotchety for stuff like this but the school DROPPED THE BALL as far as I'm concerned. And, YES, I have earned the right to raise cain at them cause I'm a retired (after 35 years) educator.

I understand what you mean, critter.

But I've never been in an area so inundated with True Shooters than your neck of the woods. I'd put any randomly picked 9th grader from around Warren up against any randomly picked Marine in a shooting contest.

And I'd probably win...
