One of these caught my eye at the dealer's shop yesterday! I don't know much about the High Power and even less about the "Practical" model. I'd like to hear some opinions on it before I go drop $650. I guess my main concern is that the trigger seems a little "stiff". Other than that it seems like a fine pistol.

Thanks
Michael

I've looked over one at a gunshop just last week.
A fine handgun. But, no, I don't have one.

Yet.

I have one in 9mm. It's a great gun, very accurate. To fix the trigger, have the mag safety removed (useless) and the trigger job completed. It'll be the best you ever felt. With the mag safety, it's a bit gritty.

My .40 Practical Hi-Power is a good gun. The trigger was a bit rough but has smoothed up. A little grease on the sear and the mag safety helps. My only dislike about the .40 BHP's in general is getting the recoil spring back in--this takes some getting used to.

Considering the cost of almost any BHP at the local gunshop in my area, I'm not surprised at the $650 price tag on the Practical. Not long ago I passed on a new MK III because it cost $600. Now I wish I'd gotten it, since none has come through since.

I have one. Like Jimmy, I like it. Getting the recoil spring back in takes some muscle, but it's not extreme. Recoil is "snappy", accuracy is quite good. Trigger on mine is OK, pretty good for a stock BHP. Like the other posters mentioned, the magazine disconnector makes the trigger worse. I put a little tetra grease on the mags where the disconnector shoe rubs them. That helps.

I absolutely LOVE my BHP in 9mm!

I have one in 9mm. Actually it's my second. I sold the first and regretted it almost instantly.

The BHP is a classic, proven design. Usually, getting the magazine disconnect safety removed will improve trigger pull, but it will also probably improve just by shooting it, as the gun wears in.

Since I have a BHP, I need no other 9mm.

I have two Browning Hi-Power .40's: a Silver Chrome .40 and a Standard (polished blue) .40. I put a C&S trigger pull reduction spring kit in my SIlver Chrome and it makes the heavy slide pull easier for sure. Though they take getting used to after shooting 1911's, the triggers on them are pretty nice, but heavy. They most certainly can be made lighter and smoother if after shooting awhile you still want to. These are the best "feeling" in the hand pistols I've ever held. Just a superb and highly reliable design. I highly recommend them. My third one will be a 9mm MkIII.

I have a .40 Practical. Great gun, one of the softest shooting .40's that I have ever shot. No difference in it and a std MkIII other than the plating on the frame. Mine has had the trigger, hammer, and sear replaced, the mag disconnect removed, and a new relocated trigger bar installed so I don't remember what the original trigger felt like. What concerns me is the price. I bought mine LNIB for $389. You can currently buy the all silver chrome versions around here for $550 NIB at AJC in Clute, Tx. A Practical should be less.

Thanks for all the info guys.

Jeff OTMG:

I haven't been able to find one for a cheaper price. I looked at GunsAmerica and Gunbroker the lowest price I found was $650. I think I can get my dealer down on price a little and he's got 2 Mec-Gar mags that he'll give me also. If you can point to somewhere that I can get it cheap enough to make the out of state transfer costs worth while I'd be in your debt.

Thanks
Michael
