being offered these for trade. Need a ccw. I like the 1911 platform and firepower. I like the ss finish and the shrouded hammer on the 649 but hate the looks of the gun. Anyone carried these? I know alot carry the 1911 but am wondering about the 649. Plan on carrying iwb most of the time

Looks won't get you home in one piece at the end of the night. A gun that you'll actually carry all the time will.
Go with the 649.

I started carrying a blued 49 in 1975 as my backup. Carried it everyday, all day, until 1995 when I got a deal on a 649. I've been carrying the 649 ever since. I also had a nickle Model 38 for a while until a guy offerred me way more than I had in it and what it was worth so I parted with it. I won't part with either my 49 or 649.
Don't worry about what it looks like. You're not carrying for looks. Personally I like the looks of the humpback.

I have a Springfield Loaded 1911, a Rock Island compact 1911, and a Ruger LCR (yes, I know it's not the revolvers in question...bear with me a moment).
The Springer is a safe queen. I've carried it one time.
The RI gets an outing every now and then when I'm in shorts & long-tailed shirt. It's my "day off and I'm feeling tough" gun.
My Ruger LCR is in my pocket each working day, at night when I go places, and for the quick dash to the grocery store. It's light, unobtrusive, and - best of all - drops into the pocket as fast as my car keys. The 1911 needs a holster, a heavy belt, and - for me - a long shirt. I won't part with either 1911, but the Ruger is my constant companion.
