Hey guys.

I am working on a 1964 Rem 700 7MM Mag.

I believe it is an ADL, but am not certain, also am uncertain if it is a long or short action.

How can I tel. There is a floor plate in front of the trigger, but you need to unscrew it to access the magazine.

I need to replace the stock, and want something that will require little to no work.

Any ideas suggestions.

Being a 7 mag, it IS a "long action".I'm not familiar with exactly what you're describing, as far as stocks. I can't imagine that is the factory stock and it could be either a BDL with a "buggered" floorplate or a modified ADL stock?
If you're just wanting info for stock replacement,sounds like a BDL stock & new hinged floorplate parts are what you need.

Is your current stock broken, or just looking bad? To do a replacement properly, the new stock needs to be bedded to the action. If you don't do that, you're likely to see an accuracy drop off. If the problem is just cosmetic, then refinishing your stock makes a lot more sense. Perhaps the services of a competent gunsmith are in order?

that's how I remember them - the BDL models had a mag floorplate, a nicer finish on both metal and wood. BDL was usuallt set off with an ebony forenend tip, checkering, and a high gloss eurathane type of finish while ADL was less fancy.

I'd check in Numrich's to see if they don't have an original BDL long action Rem 700 stock. I've noticed some pretty good sounding deals in there for things like that, like maybe this one: http://www.e-gunparts.com/product.asp?chrProductSKU=1096950

Originally they were both deluxe models of the same rifle. The model ADL had a blind box magazine and the BDL had a drop floor plate. Since the op needs to use a screwdriver to access the magazine I would say it is an ADL. As I recall there was also magnum versions, although I think they were for the H&H magnums.

I know a guy who has a never used BDL stock from a 338 Win Mag that he has been trying to sell for some time. After buying the rifle, he put a Browns Precision synthetic stock on the rifle. If you are interested, I will try and put the two of you together so you can work out details.

Thank you for all your input and suggestions. It turns out that this is an ADL that the previous owner modified with a magazine floor-plate, and that may be why the stock is cracked in that area. In any case the stock needs to be replaced, and I really don not care if it is wood or another material. One thing that irritates me is that I contacted Hogue for some help and they ignored my request, great customer service.

You may purchase replacement Remington stocks in either ADL or BDL models from Gun Parts Corp(Numrich Arms), or several years I replaced a long action BDL stock with a Boyd's laminated stock purchased from MidwayUSA. I don't have their catalog in front of me so I can't verify if they still carry them. It was a 100% drop in and aluminum bedded, and as bonus, this stock made an all ready accurate rifle better and actually halved my 100yd groups with it's great aluminum bedding. :D
