My multi-word search is broken

When I search for more than one word, I never get the results back, as in the forum disappears, and instead of reloading with my results, all I get is a blank, white page. One word searches USUALLY work, 2 word about 50%, 3 word about 10%, and don't even think about more than three. I swear this started around the time Derek worked on the search last, but I have no hard proof.

Is anyone else having this problem? Is this perhaps a Firefox issue? As I type this I realize I should try searching in an Explorer window.....maybe I'll go try that to.

ETA: Nope, Explorer engine has the same problem.

Something is screwy on your machine. Two word searches work just fine in My IE 6.0.2900. And with Firefox 5.0 and Netscape 9.

What words are failing? Let's see if we can replicate it.

I'm on a different laptop today, and the problem is the same on this machine in both FF 5 and IE 8.

For example:
I searched for
"solder sight to barrel"; got blank page
"solder sight barrel"; blank
"solder sight"; I get results

I have had the same experience with other sets of search terms, but frankly I can't remember now exactly what it was I was looking for. Others I tried:

"Winchester 1300" returns results
"Winchester 1300 barrel" returns blank page

this is weird:
started with "browning", continued to add words up to "browning machine m2 .50 bolt"; never had a failure.

"springfield mil-spec grip safety" works

"sellier & bellot fouling" works

"winchester 1300 barrel" still won't

I can't make heads or tails of it. It seems to be better tonight than it has been, however.

ETA: I would suspect my connection, but my work computer does the same thing. Also, every time I have a failure, if I shorten my search to one or two words, it works, but then re-trying the original search gets me a blank page again.

I'll be super impressed if someone can figure this out; the worst problems to diagnose are the inconsistent ones.

I don't know the cause, but I can verify the failure. I searched for "solder sight barrel" as you did in your first example and got a completely blank page in return. I'm using Firefox 3.5.1 on MS XP.

I tried several different Search Option combinations and consistently got the blank screen. So at least you know it's not you or your system.

""solder sight barrel" failed for me too.

Something else to look into, I guess...

In reference to my previous post;

I was looking for a specific thread or post I am pretty sure I saw here regarding authentic-looking home-made cartridge box labels. As my search was pretty specific I searched something to the effect of "home made vintage cartridge box labels" and got a blank page. By shortening my search terms, however, I ended up with dozens of pages of results which were completely irrelevant to what I was looking for. FWIW, the search returned many threads/posts containing only the word "box" or "cartridge" but I didn't find any with more of the search terms I was looking for.

'1911 barrel fit', '1911 barrel', '1911 fit', '1911 pistol barrel' all return a blank page, using the default settings in Advanced Search.

Im glad this is a known issue. For a moment I thought I had forgotten how to properly use the search function on a vbulliten forum.
