I was on my way to OBX last week and I saw a Gander Mt. and I had never ben to one so I decided to stop in. It reminded me of a mini Bass Pro, but without all the wildlife. I stoped over at the gun counter and within 2 minutes was greeted by a very nice gentleman who seemed to be running the gun counter. We start shooting the breeze and I ask to take a look at the LCR, because we dont have them in DE yet.

So I'm looking at the LCR, and I ask about the LCP and he says "Yeah we have a bunch, they are over in the other case." So I thank him and start to walk over to the other case (pretty big case) and he says "No man I'll get it for you", than procedes walk to the other side of the counter to grab it for me let me dry fire it, the whole nine. I gotta say I was more than impressed with the level of customer service that this place has, top notch. Everyone else that worked there seemed to be very helpful as well. On top of that, the prices were very fair, with 4 or5 on sale with a very good discount. I would buy all of my guns here if I didn't live in Delaware, I just wanted to give them a good write up.

gander has the most helpfull staff and hard to find items, but the prices are higher then walmart or dicks sporting goods or any other sporting goods chain store.

Everyone has a good day--having them consistently seems to be the problem though.

I like the one I go to in Pa...They are always helpful and courteous. Notlike the guys at Wallyworld

Is that not worth a small extra premium? Compare this to one gun shop experience I had years ago , where I walked in with money burning a hole in my pocket, asked to see a gun and received the sneering reply, "You just wanna look?" (Frankly, I should have told him to ****, but I really wanted the gun, so I said, "I have cash in my pocket, and if you want to see any of it you'll show me that gun." I did buy it, but never went back there.)

In my book it would be worth the premium, but the prices were not high at all. Plus the big selection.

I don't think so, they had a S&W M&P AR Flattop for $949 regular price, and a Pardner pump for $179 on sale. (I think, don't hold me to the Pardner price) The S&W 642s were a tad high @ $479 but I think overall they were fair. Am I missing something, or did I just go to a good one?

Doubtful, but I also doubt there are any good ones as far as prices are concerned.

If the service and selection is good at a particular place, I'll pay a bit extra - within reason.

Local Gun Store had LCP for $324.99, whereas Academy (who I do like and purchase from often, btw) had it for $319.99. I'll give the local guy $5 extra given the service he provides above and beyond the other guys.

He even offered to sell me some .380 for what he paid that weekend at the gun show. He said he got it just to have for resale with the LCPs. Fair enough, but for Magtech at $50 a box I'll pass. He seconded my decision.

dan the only problem is no out of state handgun sales

ive been to that specific gander a bunch and the staff is great only have one guy thats a gun idiot (talking out his butt about things he didnt know about)

also any firearms that have bayonet lugs and are considered "evil black rifles" are no out of state sales as well

oh and there have been LCRs in delaware i got mine at centermass firearms a few months ago too bad theyre closing

oh i almost forgot if you are looking for an LCR check steeles gunshop on rt9 he had a few the other day

I go to one only occasionally, and have never been really impressed by anything there, from the service to the prices to the selection.

Their service was ok, as in they came and talked to me and asked if I needed any help. I consider that to be par for the course, and expected. I was wasn't blown away by anything positively or negatively.

As a side note, they had 45-70 ammo labeled as being suitable for varmints (you know, the little cards they have out by their ammo). When I asked a guy why they had it like that, he replied "well, you could". Uh, yeah, and I could hunt bison with a .22LR, but that doesn't make it appropriate. If they think you need a little card to tell you what ammo is suitable for your purposes, maybe it should be halfway correct.

Their selection is the normal stuff you see in Iowa, lots of pumps, rimfires, and a few centerfires. Nothing special, other than the Mosins they have.

Prices are acceptable I guess if I can't wait for something, but did seem to be a bit higher than my local Scheels.

I would go back to look if I'm in the area, but I wouldn't make it my store of choice.

Glad you had a great experience there though, I would call mine sadly average.

Yeah, I'm probably just making it up.

Gander is not my favoriate...short on help at the counter and rude. At least in Davenport, IA ( And I have bought 5 or 6 guns from them in the last couple years...help forever changing.
