Taiwan will have their elections next year, fairly early, before March..

The candidates are shaping up to be.. err... That's the problem, they aren't shaping up...

So I'm thinking, well, maybe the American elections will yield new fruitbaskets of hope..

:scrutiny:

I start to comb through some of the "presidental hopefuls" on both sides of the aisle...:banghead: :barf:

Yet another election of selecting the lesser of evils? has "Voting FOR someone" become so foreign of a concept in elections now? A'nhold won in the PRK because people voted AGAINST gray davis.. People all vote against..

Someone tell me a candidate I've missed that I can vote FOR.. because they have sound principles and abide by them..

Or am I asking for too much here??

Taiwan needs a Libertarian party.

Well, heck, so does the United States.

Taiwan had a libertarian party a few years back..

It got like 4000 votes total...

People just aren't interested in voting for liberty..

People just aren't interested in voting for liberty.

Most people don't seem to be, true, but for those of us who are interested in voting for liberty, the Libertarian party tends to offer candidates to vote for rather than against.

Blink, can you even vote in Taiwan?

Technically? Yes, I can vote here, but then I'd have to go into military service (manditory here)..

I've voted for Harry Browne every election I can think of...

twoblink,

Are you telling that if you spoke to people one-on-one, and explained the concepts of freedom and how it would benefit them, that it would not interest them?

At least you have your damned voter's registration card (if you need them there). Here in Broward, I have been waiting since July for mine. SOE doen't have enough money to mail ~3000 cards out. Crap, I'll give 'em the $1200 to mail them myself. Incompetent Miriam Elephant!!!

Glockler, from what I gather, culturally, personal freedom is not some innate concept in Asians like it is for Americans. Asians have kept alive over the last 5000 years by keeping their heads down WTSHTF. OTOH Americans like to sing songs about freedom but it seems like voting those freedoms away (either for the children or to restore family values) is our favorite hobby after television.

Glockler,

So far, the only Taiwanese that I've explained the freedom concept to and has embrassed it, is my gf. (That's why she's my gf. And tactical too! )

When you tell people to vote for liberty; they reply with "That sounds great, but I'm going to vote for the lesser of the evils just so the more evil one doesn't win"..

Doesn't that sound familiar? Why did Ah'nold win the PRK instead of McClintock? Yeah.. because people aren't interested in voting for the best man. They vote against the worst man..
