What in the SAM HILL did I just buy??

It's some kind of .357 M19, I know that much.
serial #20K22**
I see a barrel pin, but that's about as much as I know.
Came with a black, S&W, thumb brake leather holster. Tight lockup, nice finish, cycles just fine.
I figured at $375 I should just go ahead and snag it.
What say you?

That is a very fine example of the model known as the Smith & Wesson Combat Noisemaker. A flawed tactical concept, the Combat Noisemaker was designed to distract and dismay opponents with gigantic fireballs and thunderous booms. Welding goggles and gloves were included in the box; if they have been lost consult your local supply house before firing.

obviously the "combat noisemaker" thing posted by the 2nd poster is a joke. the idea is just ludicrous. just to confirm i was right I did a google search. Yep. Didn't turn up a single thing about a "combat noisemaker."

Aw, I'm good with it.
I'm already half blind and deaf, so magnums won't affect anything but the webbing between my thumb and forefinger.:p

Perhaps the 2nd poster is a girlyman who is scared of fireballs and wets his pants when he hears loud noises.
Heck, I have seen some guys complain about the punishing wrist breaking recoil of the might 380 ACP cartridge. If they can complain about a 380, the 357 must seem like a howitzer to them.
That looks like a very fine Model 19... you got a great deal.

Its a close range gun and if used on edible game the fireball shortens cooking time considerably.

Hello friends and neighbors // I'll give $391.00 to save your webbing, the least I can do.
Really, I think it is a Jewel .
S&W model 19 357 Combat Magnum came in 2 1/2",,,,, 4",,,,with Baughman Quick Draw front sight. (6" had partidge) ,,,,,,available in " Bright Blue "" or nickle////// $150.00 in 1974 ////// They got rid of diamond pattern grip in 1968.
You can almost be certain .357 rounds were rarely used.
Blueing looks better than my 1983 S&W model 586 ,, 6" ,,.357 Distingused Combat Magnum Revolver.
. Actually the 2 would be a perfect pair hope I can find one. hint. hint..hint ;- )

Nice find doc, great price too. I had one like it a long time ago, one of my all time favorite revolvers and, IMO, one of the best looking S&W's ever.

ok, then
It's a keeper.
Something else will have to go in the car, like my imported 1911.
That works for me.

That's a $600 gun in my neighborhood.
I carry one like it most every day.
Check the number on the butt of the gun. That is the serial number.
Looks to be a 1977 vintage.
Model 19-4 How close did I come

THat's the last of the Pinned barrels and recessed cylinders.
You might want to look into a Tyler T-grip adapter for it.

Nice grips.
It came with a Hogue Monogrip which I've already installed after taking a few pics with the factory wood.
Guess I'll just keep it in the house and let it appreciate.

Thought I was doing good paying $482 online for this 1975 Model 19-3 (will end up at $530 after all the shipping and transfer fees).

Nice looking revolver, great price.
It reminds me a little of it's relative, here. I actually rarely shoot mine; it hurts my hand and I can't hit anything with it.

I've had a 19 and a 66 snubby. These are one of the coolest-looking revolvers ever. :) Unfortunately I couldn't hit anything with them.

Yes, they are hopeless and have no valid use...send them all to me and I will dispose of them properly! :D

But the GUNS could !
The 19/66 are some of the most accurate short-barreled revolvers out there.

Well Doc, you've fallen off the Colt wagon. I guess we'll forgive you this one time. That Model 19 is very nice.
I missed a nice Model 66 snub about a year ago. Had it in my hand and then gave it back to the shop keeper. Went back to get it the next day and well, you know the rest of the story. We've all been there. :banghead:
