Any real, practical difference in performance between these barrel lengths? I have the 4" model in ss, and take it with me hiking and camping. I'm in southern California - no grizzlies or brownies to worry about. I find the size of the 4" is perfect for packing around, but I like the looks of the 5". I don't want a 6" bbl (or above). Would I be gaining anything ballistics-wise if I were to trade for a 5" bbl? I don't hunt with it (at least I haven't so far), and I only target shoot with it to keep in practice.

Read an article in a magazine[Guns @ Ammo ?] anyhow they took a 24 inch rifle [308?] and started cutting an inch off the barrell and chronod it every inch. Vel loss worked out to 25 fps per inch. I dont know how it would compare in a handgun but I dont think it would make very much difference. Certainly not enough to warrant a new gun. However if you like the looks of the 5 inch , one can never have to many guns.
