Oh boy! If this is your first 1858 then you're in for a treat.

I've got Ubertis but from what the guys here say there's not much to choose between them. Mine both have triggers that are, if anything, too smooth and easy so I need to really concentrate on keeping my finger pressed to the front of the guard during hammer cocking. Mind you I don't know if the previous owner had them done or not.

At the last Speed Steel match I got one of the Remmies out at the end of the day to show off the gun and the clouds of smoke it makes. I was ringing the 8 inch steel disc out at around 20 yards pretty much every time out of the three and a half cylinders worth of balls I sent downrange. I would have kept going but they wanted to clean up the equipment and call it a day.

A father and son team even got a chance to try a couple of shots each when I noticed them behind me and talking. It was the end of the last cylinder before the guys wanted to tear down the setup. But they sure had a big smile on their face afterwards. The son was in his mid teens and as they walked away just could not stop talking about the cowboy gun....:D But the dad was a bit put out by the loading drill which he had watched me doing. Including my remark to him "This is why they don't show this part in the movies" :D

Das Jaeger

did you ever see "The Quick and the Dead" with Sharon Stone ?
There is a scene of all of them actually cleaning and prepping thier guns and loading too individually prior to thier gunfights with eachother . One guy even had a Lemat he was gunslingin with , ummm , he died prety fast iin the Competion of Death :D , hee hee heee , but they show him loading and greasing over his Balls :D ....One of the only movies I have seen besdies some CLint Movies that actually show him loading too , and one Civil War movie I can't recollect that also shows the loading of powder and ball . .
Here's rule number one, " PEOPLE ARE LAZY " ....Ruel Two, " PEOPLE ARE CHEAP " ..........Ruel three , Refer to Rule one and Two for nearly any excuse to not do something for some people :D .

Glad you had time to show the ropes to the younin though, am sure it will
stick with him forever , and may even get his Pops to buy him a new gun . :D

PS........The Uberti Trigger pulls on new productions are the best I have ever seen , and mach in quality ( most ) my highest end Match 1911's .

Me thinks his Jaegerness should be heralded as our resident expert. 'Course... we ALL know what an "exspurt" is...

And "ex" is a "has-been", and a "spurt" is a "drip under pressure". :neener:

DJ, that's interesting about the Uberti triggers. And it matches what I've seen here. When I got mine they were either exceedingly well take care of before I became their ward or they were used exceedingly little. So I would not be surprised if they are box stock and just feel this way naturally.

There's no doubt that something as esoteric (y'all like the big $5 words? :D) as black powder shooting is going to draw in its fair share of characters. And by definition characters tend to hold to their beliefs. This means that much of the time the common intrest will have everyone in agreement. But now and then, being the characters we are, beliefs will collide like an iceberg with the Titanic and all hell breaks loose. The important thing is that after the dust settles we should all be able to settle down, mumble some vague apology under our breaths so as not to loose face and get back to the common agreements over a beer or two. This is especially important as there's no lack of "Aces" around here.... whichever way you want to pronounce it..... :D

Now back to the resident 1858 gloating......

By the way. After shooting my own Remmies a bit more I've dropped down to around 27 to 28 grains of Holy Black. (I used the same size measure but just bump it to drop the level by about 1/16 inch in the measure) My initial impression that 30 grains was providing a .38Spl like recoil was masked by the excitement of my newbiness. 30 grains does give a pretty solid thump to the hand. Certainly not .357Magnum like but definetly more like a good solid .38+P or perhaps what a .44Spl might feel like if I ever get to shoot any.

I'm looking forward to the range report which darn well better get posted soon or there's gonna be a posse lookin' to lynch ya.... :D

and I claim not be one of them . I muddle through just like the rest of you . :D
I have strong points and weak points , often stumbled over by my own ego expressing them , and nearly always misunderstood by the recipient getting any wrath or help from me ..:neener:
I would have a drink with all of you though , even if I don't like you , and I don't :D :neener:

Poison maybe , pain meds no , not for days and days now .
I think its Alzhiemers maybe .
Just got a call from my Step Mom earlier , Dad was just diagnosed this week with it . No crap .
They are moving out here soon , so me and my worthless arse brother can take care of him later in life . That means I will be taking care of him since little brother is a sack of rocks but stupider :banghead: ...

Doggonnit !!! So sorry to hear it. I lost an uncle to Alzhiemer's... no fun to watch him as he declined. Got a video camera to record as many tales as you can get from him while he's well and lively ? I wish I'd've done some of that before my dad died of cancer.

Das Jaeger

has to come sometime, but I have witnessed Alzhiemers on soemone elses Mother, drag desease man , and its Hereditary ! Yup , will probably get it too .

I already put one Step Dad away in a hole with Lung Cancer, not a pretty way to go. I am goin to ride my Harley into a Brick Wall at 100 when its my time , chosen . :D Now that's my way to go .

Thanks, Jaeger
