Alarm went off at 3:30, I rolled over and thought about it, and went back to sleep. But, I don't think it'd been a good day for teal, clear blue skies, they'd have laid down after sun up. One of those blue bird days that if you don't get 'em in the first 30 minutes, you might as well pack it in. I'll hunt Saturday, then there's a front coming Tuesday that might bring some more birds with it. I'll try next Thursday. The place is open Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. Unfortunately, I have to work Tuesdays. I could hunt the morning, though, and maybe try one of those 5 hour energy things in the afternoon. :D I don't have to work until the afternoon. Like I say, I'm a big wuss. If that front comes in monday night, though, Tuesday could be good.

Yeah I'm always disappointed in myself when I do that. Even if it wouldn't have been a good day, it beats sleeping in and moping around the house. Oh well.

I can always get my lazy butt up if I know someone is going with me. But, when I'm by myself, sometimes I talk myself out of it.:banghead: My son-in-law, of course, has a real full time job. He'll get me out Saturday. He just came by and dropped off my grand-daughter's dancing stuff for her class after preschool, took off work, but he's got to go to Corpus today, something about renewal of his military ID. He's in the guard. We might run out to my place this afternoon and tend the deer feeder and check the dove situation down there, south zone dove opens Friday, so maybe I'll at least get outside today. I have to work on a set of carbs off a Suzuki Intruder first, but that won't take that long. I pulled 'em yesterday and pumped all the rotten gas out of the tank. Yick.

But, yeah, I just kick my butt a bit when I do that. I might have had a good shoot, doubt it, but you never know.

Hmm, that's right it's nearly dove season. Time to pull out the shotgun, and start looking for a place to hunt 'em.

TehK1w1, north of I10, you're a day late and a dollar short. :D We opened the dove season labor day weekend at my buddy's farm/s north of Waco. Wasn't quite as good as years past, but we had some good shooting. My place has minimal dove hunting, nothing really to keep 'em around (I want to dig a tank someday), but my son-in-law has a few at his place. I also have the APH and a WMA nearby which isn't much better than my own land for doves, actually. LOL I'd like to explore some of those APH dove hunting lands other than the one near my home, but I just don't get around that much other than my annual Waco trips for dove hunting.

I took my Go-Devil out this morning at first light, scouting one of my favorite Duck hunting waters for some Teal, in hopes of ambushing some tomorrow morning. I didn't see a single one, or any other migratory species. I jumped a few Wood Ducks, but in good pecan producing years they live here year round. As a rule I don't shoot them. It looks like Teal season is going to be a bust around here this year.:(

We've got some birds down here. Might be the drought. We have tide water. The lakes and ponds have been pretty dry up country, though we got that big rain the other day. I don't think they're all here in big numbers, though. Only certain holes at GDWMA are doing any good.

I was going to go tomorrow, but I got a splinter in my right heal and I can't hardly walk on my right foot, have to use the ball of the foot and keep my weight off the heal, hurts like hell. I tried to dig it out with a knife and made it about 100 times worse.

Between young kids, and work, I get so few days to hunt and fish, I dont miss any opportunity, no matter the weather. I am usually so excited that I am up before the alarm goes off. Next time you roll over and go back to sleep, think of us guys who only get three or four hunting days a year.

All I can say to a workahaulic is, well, you ain't got your priorities straight. :D

Right now I'm grounded. I got a splinter in my right heal and it got infected and swelled up. I haven't been able to walk without pain in about 3 or 4 days. It's healing now, lanced it with a sterile needle a few times. The pain at night has gone away, but still can't put much weight on it. I had an old pair of tennis shoes, took a hole saw to the sole where the boil is so I could walk without having to put weight on it, works pretty well with a little limp in the gate. LOL But, of course, that'd be kinda dumb to do to waders, LOL! If it heals enough by Saturday, I'll get one more teal hunt in. Otherwise, I'll have to wait for duck season. I can limp out to my deer blind for bow season, though. Walking in the marsh is hard enough without a boil on your foot.
