hello
last week i spent a good evening at one local indoor range. Most of time was used on Benelli M3, but at last we enjoyed some plinking with one nice sixshooter.
it is a TOZ-36 sport revolver, a single-action 7.62mm Nagant derivative, developed in 1960s by famous Soviet sport shooter, Efim Haidurov. The one specimen we fired was of late 1960s manufacture, well worn out but still shhoting quite good. SA trigger is very short and crisp, like glass, recoil is non-existant. and i just love the smell of gun powder :)
now, some pictures.
the revolver itself...

Now that's a pretty funky-looking gun.
Nightcrawler'll probably try to buy it off you... ;)
(Hey, you could probably make yourself a mint if you could hook yourself up as the main exporter of 7.62 Nagant ammo over here. Does Barnaul or anybody load it? The Fiocchi that trickles in is usually hideously expensive...)

I guess it's funky looking...shades of Colt, S&W, and the man down the street who pounds metal together and calls it art. It does look solid.

I like it, I'm not familiar with that caliber, what is it equivilent to (compared to more conventional calibers)?

genuine 7.62mm Nagant ammo is no longer made, AFAIK.
we used somewhat shorter ammo for 7.62mm TOZ-46 semiauto pistol, i believe it was more or less the same as .32S&W Long (case lenght = 1 inch exactly; LWC bullets entirely seated inside the case; quite low velocity - box marking said 240 m/s = 780 fps)
and as i said - it was not my gun, we Russkies not allowed to have anything with barrel shorter than 20"... :cuss:

Somebody ought to get in touch with the American ammo makers and tell them just how many 7.62mm Nagant revolvers have been imported in the past dozen years.
I recall back in 1978 when I got my first FFL you practicaly couldn't give away an AK-47 because you couldn't get any ammo for them and what you could get wasn't reloadable.
Now look at what you can get.
Maybe I should get another class 6 and get back into the business.

Thanks again. You really are an asset when you bring us little jewels like this one. I can honestly say that's not the kind of gun we are likely to come across in our searches through the local bait & tackle shops.

I believe that Fiocchi still makes ammo for the Nagant Gas Seal revolvers, but it is expensive, and the cases are prone to splitting on firing.

Thanks Max.
For the good report.
For the good pictures.
For the ammo info.
