Ok im having problems with my Uberti WALKER cutting nice lead rings when i ram it home. i started with the .451 balls that i use in my new army 44. 3 cyl. would cut a ring but the other 3 the ball would slide right in . so i jumped up to a .454 i think these are even worse. no ring on any cyl. So guys what do you use. I aint spending another dime till i get some feed back. i have the machine shop. so i could go threw & mic. all 6 cyl. Ps with a 45 grain load at 45 yrds it shoots way fricken high. take a few suggestions hear too. Kentucky wind age. i would have to aim at your knees to hit your belly. EDIT i mic. the cyls & it comes in right at .450 on all 6 cyl so i did the balls. there right there at .453-.454.

Ubertis usually take a 454 ball, and often a 457 is better, as I have a few 1860 cylinders that won't hold a 454 tightly enough.

Any Colt cap & ball revolver or repro with authentic sized front sights will shoot "way high". They were sighted originally to hit a horse at about 100 yards, in order to get the horseman on the ground on his own much slower feet. An 1851/1860/1861 will need a front sight about 1/4 to 5/16 tall to hit where you would like it to at reasonable range or CAS shooting. A Walker or Dragoon is bound to be about the same.

ill try the .457. & no chit. a 100 yards. Well that explains that. & i was scared to move it out any further than 45 yrds. i only got off 12 shot's today before a farm tractor was on the next hill about 150 yards away. so i put guns up for the day.

As stated .454 seems to work in some, while others prefer the .457. I use .454 Conicals and .457 balls in mine. They seem to work ok.
However to load the conicals I do reove the cylinder...

Uberti recommend's a .457 swaged round lead ball. I don't know if anything else will work or not. Never used anything in my Walker except the .457 and never used anything in my '58's and Cattleman Carbines except the recommended .451 swaged round lead balls. People have stated on here that buckshot will work well in a .31; well, maybe so, but I load and fire the recommended .323's in my Colt (Uberti) .31 and I will leave the buckshot for the shotguns where I figure it belongs....

Good move with the farm tractor Husker. Those things take forever to cook. They just never loose that "gamey taste." :D p.s. I use .457 in my Walker they seem to work well. Alas I have never used anything else so I am in no way a learned expert.

You mic'd the chambers at .450 and the balls at .454 and yet they cut no ring.

It's possible that a previous owner chamfered the chamber mouths, otherwise you need a new set of mic's.

Funny how different these loads can vary from weapon to weapon, even being the same maker (Uberti). I have used nothing but .454 swaged rb's in my WALKER, and, although I havnt got the accuracy thing down pat yet, (but I will)...I have had no problems with the balls creeping out, or any other problem, other than the usual lever falling down...Hell, maybe thats why my accuracy isnt so great...maybe I should try the .457's...But every time I go to cabelas, or James Mercantile, they seem to be outta .457's....That could be a sign ya reckon?

The Uberti documentation I have lists .454 as the recommended round ball. I would go with .457 myself, that's what I use in my Walker and Dragoons. As far as the sights, From what I have read they are sighted for 75 yd zero on old Colts, soldiers where told to aim for the belt buckle. I have never found any Colt literature about the sights, it would be interesting what the manufacturer had to say.

I've tried .451's, .454's and .457's in my Uberti Walker and it definitely likes .457's the best. Shooting .457's and a 45gr load it is a nail driver. By far the most accurate handgun I own, modern, repro, or otherwise. Any accuracy problems with that piece are mine, not the gun's!

My Dragoon shot 15 in. high at 25 yrds. I had a local smith put on a new front sight blade. After some filing it's dead on now. A couple of inches would'nt matter too much but 15 won't do.

Ive always used .457 balls in my Uberti Walker. I think that was the recommended size in the literature that came with it.

Five Strings. Sir, that was a damn good post you just made. A man after my own heart. I'vd never fired anything but the .457'S which, like Snaggletooth just said about his, my literature said use .457, and mine and your powder may be different and the powder load may be different but you and I have ended up with the same end results. That God****** Walker will carry the mail son, dead on and accurate as all get out. All one has to do is work with it and learn how to shoot it....
