Well, I've waited until the weekend before muzzleloading season to check the zero on my rifle. First weekend of the month, so Owl Hollow is closed.

Anybody tried the new TWRA Stones River range? Any reports?

I haven't made it yet either. I drove by Fri. and noticed it was open.

Came here to see if anyone else has been and came across your post. If

you go before I do, please report back. I'd like to know about it also.

I went Saturday. My review is good overall, but somewhat mixed.

First off, there was an extremely long line, and it took me 30 to 45 minutes just to get a ticket. Apparently, the TWRA has to log you in their system. Helps if you have a fishing or hunting license, but it still sems to me that the line was moving entirely too slowly. It cost $4.50 to shoot. Safety glasses and hearing protection are required. If you don't have protection, they will sell you some.

Target frames are well thought out and easily movable. The covered shooting benches were pretty nicely constructed (seats were adjustable), and there were even nice stands to hold rifles behind the shooting benches.

Did like the fact that the range was extremely safe. The RSOs (Range Safety Officers) were very visible (bright orange vests and hats) and clearly in charge. To even get onto the range, you have to go through a checkpoint to ensure that your firearms are unloaded.

However, you do have to walk quite a ways since there is only the one point of entry. With a lot of gear, you might easily have to make two or three trips. My tip? Bring a friend or a wagon if you have a lot of gear.

I shot a muzzleloader on the 50 yard range. The commands were clear (PA system), and everything moved in an orderly fashion. However, with a muzzleloader, you were only given the opportunity to fire a couple of shots between "range clear" commands--not even enough to shoot a complete group.

Here's an info link complete with photos of the range:
