Looking for feedback on Gold Dots in .380. Anyone use them as their carry ammo?

I have a p3at that I've always used them in. I love them, but have been thinking for a short barrel .380 a fmj may be better.

I put them in my Sig when I carry it. Always consistent, reliable and accurate. High quality ammo for sure.

Ive seen pictures of them dug out of ballistics gel, its enough for me to endorse them. I know the +p stuff in my thunder 380 hurts the web of my hand something fierce depending on how its handled.

Can anyone compare the recoil of the Gold Dots to Golden Sabers or Hornady Critical Defense. I feel comfortable carrying either of those depending on what I can find. I'm just looking for a reference as to the recoil.

I have heard of others carrying fmj but I haven't really considered ever carrying fmj in anything but my .45. Does anyone do this in this caliber? If so, what convinced you?

Penetration. Especially during winter months.

Check BrassFetcher (www.brassfetcher.com). They do ballistic gelatin testing.

I carry Gold Dots in my P3AT (switched from Golden Sabers).

Two reasons why:

1. I could find the darn things (a big consideration right now).
2. I carry Gold Dots in my 9mm CCW gun. Yeah, I know, apples and oranges. But still...
3. The local police force uses Gold Dots, and I want to be able to say in court that the bullet I used to defend my life is a lower-powered version of what the cops use.

I have a few on hand.

Like most American .380s they are very light loaded and under-powered even by .380 standards. Velocities and recoil is pretty much identical to Federal Hydrashocks in the same caliber.

Double Tap offer a Gold Dot .380 that is loaded closer to european power levels, that makes a lot more sense to me.

Like others, I have never had to use them, but I carry them in my new Ruger LCP. I have been very impressed with the Gold Dots shot in various 380's over the years and I stick with what works. Buy them when you see them on the shelf. :)
