Beautiful work!! Too bad you couldn't find the hardware in brass to match the gun.

I was thinking maybe something in black, I can always redo it in brass. I am thinking about something in the front of it say some type of cup or bowl. The plans I used called for a round in the center and 2 rectangle dishes on the side but I did not cut those.

Blacknet you're right, it does look super good! :)
I love working with bloodwood. I had to pre-drill the holes for the small screws. Bloodwood tends to split easily to. The plans I used calls for 2 bf total which is not much at all nor terribly expensive.
The brackets I cut to shape with a belt sander :) Going to line it with felt.

Very sanitary , will look great felted out :D ..Nice Confederate Flag Blue Felt , mmm huh :D , Or green or red or black or purple :D
I use the hell out of bloodwood too ,for grips , rifle forened caps , pistol grip caps on rifles , cool stuff , especailly as it ages , really gets character .

As you can see the bottom insert I did not cut the circle nor the 2 sections on that. I ruined the first section when I tried to mortise the slots on the side so I recut it and did not add those 2. What I am considering is a bowl of some form out of bloodwood to put there. Perhaps some type of magnet base and detachable or a screw into the top block.
While on loading stands I did run across a link to a loading stand for a revolver.
http://img187.imageshack.us/img187/5460/assyleftux7.jpg
On revolver loading stands , make your base holders for the butt absolutely adjustable or your gonna regret it . If you own more than one Revovler which everyone does , none fit the stand right but the one you made for the first Revolver . I would make the butt holder adjsutable to fit many styles and types of Cap and Ball revolver Butts . A Walker or Dragoon isn't gonna fit an 1860 stand , nope .

Love that bloodwood. Thank you for sharing the plans !! I need to do a little bit of that sort of thing myself. Seein' another's efforts is indeed inspirational and a bit of a motivating kick in the seat. Now... will I apply myself in a timely manner? :D :banghead: :D
Sweet pistol there too !

OK I picked up a router today and cut those final 3 sections on the base. I thought I would have preferred if it was oval and not rectangle. One side gave me major fits and it's not perfect on that side (right) :(
Good job , looks fine , don't lose any sleep over it , I won't :D
Love Blood Wood :D

Great job, but give us the scoop on that double. Is that smooth on one barrel and rifled on the other?
oh no plans either. just got a 1x8 by 6' piece of pine and started cutting. added dowels drilled holes and voila

Blacknet, your wood working is superb. And kudos on the choice of bloodwood. It looks FANTASTIC.... but I think you should ask the wife to buy you a doweling joint jig for Christmas. I'm sorry but those brackets make my eyes hurt. Even if they were brass they would still just be out of place. Glued dowel joints, either exposed or blind, would have been much more in keeping with the rest of the look and quality that I see. Even nicer, at least on the top, would have been dovetail joints. Just as strong as the brackets but oh so much more in keeping with the rest of the look of this stand. Sorry to be the one person to point it out. It's just that the rest of your stand is so nicely done that it's just a crime that you opted for those brackets over traditional joinery that would have been the icing on the cake.

Okay here's mine, fits all my revolvers except the Walker but the protype fits it okay. Now if I could only take better pictures.
Tom, That looks great, simple but it works,,,,,,,,,,right. I would like to make one like that. I would not put mine on here,
Everyone made nice looking and workable stands. I'm gong to try again, if it comes out good. I will post it. I will buy one if somebody will sell one.:D

Tom, that would be great. the smaller the stand the easier to carry to the range. The revolver that is on that small folding stand. that would not take up much room in a shooting box. you could also use to display the revolver.:D

Here's a picture with the display piece removed so the stand can be used as a loading stand.
Anything you make yourself is better than anything store bought everyday of the week, no matter your skill level or how it looks as long as it works and you're happy with it.
Bunch of good looking stands here. That bloodwood one with that big old Howdah pistol is very impressive...
I saw one of those Howdahs for sale at the KCK Cabela's in the bargin cave today.

Not a loading stand but a storage stand for your safe. I'd think you could adjust the measurements for BP revolvers.
