I currently reload with an RCBS rock chucker. I have noticed some good deals on die sets for sale used. Can other brands of dies be used in my RCBS press? Have any of you reloaded with used dies before? Anything to look out for? Thanks!

You can generally use any die that is threaded 7/8 x 14, which is just about all of them. There are some exceptions, but those are usually specialty dies.

I have lots of dies I've bought that were used when I bought them. Look for missing parts and scratches on the inside of steel sizing dies. Most minor scratches can be polished out, but large ones and heavy rust will ruin a die.

Hope this helps.

I use a big multitude of die brands on my press. Some work better than others, but they all will work.

Isn't RCBS a division of LEE?

I believe the Dillon Square Deal is the only press that uses a non standard die set up.

Lee and RCBS are separate companies as of last night. You may want to watch out for any dies marked "Lyman Tru-Line Jr" also. These dies have been obsolescent for some time and were made for the Lyman Tong Tool (Nutcracker). They have a narrower body diameter and different threads, if you run across any you would need an adapter to use them in a modern press like Lee or RCBS that take 7/8x14 dies. :)

Isn't RCBS a division of LEE?

They are owned by ATK. They also own CCI, Speer and a couple of other companies.

ATK also owns Federal Ammunition and runs the Lake City Ordinance plant under contract to the federal government. They bought all the Blount holdings several years ago, and are a major munitions supplier to our armed forces.

Hope this helps.

"Isn't RCBS a division of LEE? "

I think so. They polish the externals of the dies more and put more paint on the presses, triple the prices and sell the tools as "you get what your pay for." ( :) )

WHOA fellers!!!

Lets not start any more rumors or myths. Kay?
The Internet has way too many already.

ATK owns:
Alliant Powder for reloaders and ammunition manufacturers
CCI, Speer, Lawman, and Blazer ammunition;
Speer bullets for reloaders
Champion traps and paper, metal and clay targets
Federal Premium, Fusion, and Estate Cartridge ammunition
Gunslick and Outers gun care products
Shooters Ridge rests, gear bags and speed loaders
Ram-Line replacement stocks
RCBS reloading equipment
Weaver mounting systems
Eagle Industries law enforcement tactical accessories

They do not own Lee Precision!
And RCBS products are not Lee products with a different paint job and price sticker!
