I just recently picked up a Ruger SP101, .357, for concealed carry. I'm considering putting a hi-vis front sight on it for low-light use. Do any of you have experience with one of these? Thoughts?

I haven't any fiberoptic sights on my guns, but I have heard they can be a bit fragile. Plus, in true low light, the fiber optic may not benefit you much, while in sunlight at the range, it might be too bright.

Are you aware that there are tritium sights for the Ruger SP-101 for about the same price?

I'd thought about that too, but have heard the tritium sights were over-rated and weren't as bright in most cases except total darkness. Since I holster carry the fiber-optic tube type sight would be protected mostly. Good conerns, though. Anyone with the tritium or fiber-optic tube sights here who can add their firsthand experience?

Gemini Customs does some nice work, including replacement black, fiber optic or gold bead front sights for the SP101 called the "Small Wonder (http://www.geminicustoms.com/classified.htm)." I have no personal experience to share, I just admire Marc's work.

I've had F/O sights on a shotgun and a 22 rifle and I really like them. I've had tritium sights on my duty weapons since the '80s and my SOCOM came with tritium and I really like them.

The F/O's don't work without light, but they work pretty good early and late.

The tritiums don't work if there is enough light to actually see the sights.

What I'd like to see is an F/O sight with a tritium vial inlaid lengthways underneath the F/O. The best of both worlds.

That would be awesome. Anyone from the big names reading this? Count me in for a test run!

VA27 and Gary_K: try googling TruGlo TFO (Tritium Fiber Optic) or see the first product on the linked page; I don't think they're offered for revolvers, though...

Awesome! I've fired an email to TruGlo asking when the sight will be available for SP101s. I doubt I'll hear back, but if enough people ask for it maybe they'll pay attention.
