I've been in the market for a cheap tac light to keep around the house and found this today, so I just thought I'd share this for anyone who's interested.
I saw they are now selling these @ Lowe's (which surprised me) for $25, so I picked one up today. It's the Coast Tactical Series Dual Color 100 lumen. It seems to me that it's quite a steal. It comes with a lanyard and belt pouch w/ carabiner.
It runs on 3 AAA's and has a 50 hour battery life.
Yeah, I don't know hardly anything about led's, so I'm just going on what the packaging says. But this thing sure seems a bit brighter than the 80 lumen Surefire my buddy has (I believe it's the G2Z).
The way I see it, even if it's not 100lm, if it's as bright as it is, it's worth $25 or more.
Plus, it feels like a pretty durable little lamp, and that alone is more than I can say for most lights in this price range.

I bought one at Home Depot and it's really nice. Definitely HIGH intensity and lights up my whole back yard.
Thing is don't you guys wonder why no one seems to make a RUBBER flashlight with LED's for under $100 these days?

Well, the problem is insulation.
High performance leds generate a good deal of heat. Unlike incandescent lamps which perform just fine when hot, leds performance and service life is compromised by overheating.
This is usually dealt with by attaching the led to a copper or aluminum slug, which transfers heat to an aluminum body, which transfers heat to your skin, where it is carried away by the blood...
There are a fair number of plastic bodied led lights these days, but the brightest of the bright continue to have alloy bodies.

Yeah, it is unlikely that these are 100 lumen lights. That would mean that each 5mm LED puts out 20 lumens, and I think the best you would ever get on each 5mm LED is 10 lumens. The packaging is errant. However, having said that, I'd like to go to Lowes to check one out.

I put one of those on a Saiga 12 and it has around 600 rounds on it now and it's held up just fine. I don't think it's as bright as advertised, but it's certainly good enough. A great deal in my book.
