870 Police Magnum Disassembly Question

I just picked up a new 870 Police magnum with a seven shot extension magazine on it. I always disassemble a new gun and clean it as first thing as soon as I get it home. I took the magazine extension swivel assembly off, took off the extension, and tried to take off the magazine tube coupling (used to be called a magazine cap). On every other 870 I own, you merely grabbed it and unscrewed the cap. I can't budge this one. Any suggestions short of taking a strap wrench to it.

If you don't have a pair of soft-jaw locking pliers, your next best option is going to be a pair of padded pliers or vise-grips (:uhoh: ); as long as you're careful, you can do it that way, but make sure you've got a couple of folds of cloth between the cap and the jaws to protect the finish.

I had success this morning! After going to Wally World and getting a pair of "Grip Wrenches" ( a rubber strap wrench), the little one fit around the magazine cap and with one solid whack, it came loose. A little lube and a little less King Kong and it's working fine. Now it's time to take this little social work piece out and pattern it.

Hey, Big Dog Dad. Could you let me know how it patterns? I have a 870P model# 4903 would like to compare notes.
Thanks Fastlane...
