I guess the de facto ''full size'' is regarded as being the Gov 1911 5" and variants thereof.
I do consider tho I carry full size, even if shorter .. my P series is chunky and only saves a bit in length. I carry that strong side Fobus paddle mostly but also at times use a Bianchi sho rig. I have recently got a ''Smart Carry'' and am experimenting with that for those real hard occasions where concealment is a headache.

I carry a Beretta 92FS in a Galco MOB (middle of back) IWB holster. It's comfy, unless I'm riding in the car for a long time. I know the nay-sayers about SOB carry, but it works for me -- especially concealing a full sized firearm.

I carry one of my 1911 Govt. models quite a bit IWB 4:00ish. However, I can see already that since I've got a compact 1911, carrying the heavy 5" model is going to quickly taper way off.
I've also tried my full sized CZ-75B a couple of times. It is surprisingly thin and comfortable. Measuring side by side, I was surprised to find it's similar in dimensions to the 1911 govt. I guess that might be due to it's Browning HP roots. I liked that enough to get PCRCCW (www.hbeholsters.com) to make me a nice leather IWB holster for it.

I had a Colt Commander that I tried to carry IWB, but because I have sciatic nerve problems, my right "cheek" would go numb after carrying it for an hour or so. I traded it for a Kimber Ultra Carry and havent had that problem with it. I really miss the Colt, though... wish I woulda bought the Kimber without trading it. :(

Gotta respect a lady who carries a full size 1911!
Funny, I respect most people, whether they're male or female, and whether they carry or not.
I've always figured that was my choice, and that I don't "gotta" respect any of them.
Your answers may be different, of course, but basing respect on gender, or giving more respect to a lady who does the same things men do will loose you a lot of respect where I live.

Yeah, I only meant it to be a compliment to Tamara, nothing else.
I thought so.
That makes it worse.
That means you were completely oblivious to the implications of your comment, and so accustomed to different standards for females that the only way your comment could have been interpreted in your world was as a compliment.

I guess it would be horribly sexist of me to admit that I have deep respect for every woman I have met on THR.
I usually show respect to anyone I meet. And that respect either deepens or disappears depending on thir actions.
I guess that is only worsened by the fact that every woman here has earned that deeper respect.
As for the men on here. I respect most of them. Some quite a lot. But others not at all.
edited to add gun content
I also must admit that I give extra admiration to any woman who has decided to take control of her safety and the safety of her family by showing an interest in firearms for self defense and by expending the effort to properly learn the ins and out of safe carry.

We all know that shooting is a gender biased activity. I think that respect in some form or another is due to a woman who breaks the stereotypical male dominance of sport or self defense when it comes to the selection of firearms.
Respect isn't just something you have or you haven't, it comes in degrees. Most people deserve at least some amount of respect, some people get more. I respect women as much as men. I however, respect them more when they choose to carry an effective tool for protection. Not because they are armed but because they have the courage to do something not many others do; to protect themselves in this fashion. Hell, I respect my dad very greatly, but not just because he's a man. When my mom died when I was young he had to fill in as a mother and father. Women will tend to dominate in the home as a caregiver, but in this case my dad came through for me. This doesn't mean I don't respect the fathers of others, but I think my dad deserves an additional amount.
Now back to your regularly scheduled thread...

We all know that shooting is a gender biased activity. I think that respect in some form or another is due to a woman who breaks the stereotypical male dominance of sport or self defense when it comes to the selection of firearms.
That is precisely what I'm objecting to.
Treating women differently when they choose to participate in our sport is one of many things that promotes gender bias, and allows it to flourish in our sport. It's also an easy one to change.
The failure to realize that is what I'm pointing out.
When you treat shooters differently because they are women, you not only allow the bias to exist, you encourage it, and the very act of treating women differently is participation in that bias.
The final step is to allow yourself to believe you are free of gender bias, while actively promoting it.
Respect is due Tamara because she's a shooter.
Just like me. Just like you. Because she's a shooter, not because she's a woman who shoots.
It shouldn't be an issue. It shouldn't draw comment. It just shouldn't matter.
Equality is equality. Everything else isn't.
The difference between us is that no, I won't let it pass. I won't participate in the status quo, i won't look the other way any more than I would silently accept any other bias based on a natural condition.
There isn't a chill pill strong enough to get me to accept that type of bias.
I've dealt with bias in one form or another all my life. I'm used to it.
I've come to the conclusion, after almost half a century of thought and observation, that the best course of action I can take is simply to point it out when I see it, refuse to be party to it, and demonstrate to the best of my ability against it. I'm not leaving, and I'm not willing to tolerate the situation. That leaves protest.
I commend you for stating, point blank, that gender bias exists in our sport.
That's quite a ways down the road from denying that there's anything wrong, or implying that it's insignificant.
The next step is to become offended that it exists, because it is a truly offensive condition, whether or not it's happening to you, personally.
Understand that I don't claim to have the answers. All I have is an objection to a condition that shouldn't be allowed to exist, and that should offend all of us.
Equally.

This is a classic case of thread highjacking. And not for humorous purposes, either. The original topic is a matter of some interest to many people.
Please, no more snide comments or private agenda remarks. The gender-bias points are made. That is also being covered in another thread. Y'all take the bickering there, or start your own thread, but it stops here. This is a general cauitonary note; no names mentioned. I'd like to leave it this way.

I carry a H&K P7M8 every day. If I'm wearing a vest or coat I carry it in a Blade-Tech belt holster at 4 o'clock. When I'm just wearing a shirt it rides just behind my right hip in a FIST #K1 J-Hook IWB rig with my shirt tucked in over it.

I guess all three of my carry pistols can be termed "full sized", although i really consider the P7M8 more of a compact.
My main CCW piece is a H&K P7M8, usually carried in a Ross pancake-type OWB. The peculiar geometry of the P7 makes it less than perfect for IWB carry.
On occasion, I carry a Browning BDM in a Galco Summer Comfort, just for variety. The BDM is very thin, which makes it a prime candidate for IWB carry. The Summer Comfort is my favorite IWB holster...it has a radical forward rake, which pulls the gun butt up high to minimize printing. Even a ful-sized gun disappears under an untucked t-shirt.
I just picked up a Glock 31 on a trade, which will be added to the cary rotation as a beater/bad weather/hot weather/ belly band/sweat-resistant type gun. I didn't have a gun that was impervious to corrosion, so the G31 fit the bill. It will ride in a Summer Comfort as well.
