According to the article. three dispatchers were reprimanded and have been ordered to undergo 8 hours of crisis management training. Boiled down, the Smoaks get screwed and the guilty walk.

American injustice at its best. No way in hell will I go anywhere near Cookeville.

Links at the bottom of the article. Interesting reads. The Stasi in Cookeville watch out for their own, I guess.

Also, I am familiar with Rep. Ford. Most of the time I can't stomach anything he says. I think he's right on this one though.

Oh, and another article on this stated that the THP stated the Smoaks car was doing approximately 86 mph. No where close to 110 mph. As a matter of fact, 86 mph is fairly common on I 24 and I 40. I 440 too, for that matter.

According to the articles, there were a lot of discrepancies in the reporting of the "crime". All of which could have been found without the Stasi throwing the Smoak's on the ground and shooting their dog.

The whole disgusting mess reeks of incompetence and stupidity, not the least of which is on the part of State Sen. John Ford, D-Memphis: Ford said he hoped the Smoaks ''sue the hell out of the state THP and the Cookeville police and that damn idiotic lady who called in.'' despite: The motorist who made the call, Veronica Louwien, of Wilson County, never told the dispatcher that the money came from inside the speeding vehicle, according to an official transcript of her phone conversation with the dispatcher. Guess Ford doesn't want citizens to call in.... Idiot! :cuss:

A call to the police by a citizen should be reasonably researched for accuracy before sending out "S.W.A.T." for the same reason any request for an R.O. should be investigated before issuance. Anyone here have a bogus R.O. served because of a vindictive ex? I have. Not a pleasant experience, and it cost me a lot of money to get it rescinded.

Boy, that's just great. The answer to the problem is yet another law!!

Holy "Smoaks", this is getting ridicilous.
State Sen Ford is a major bafoon, along with the three dispatchers.

Cookeville PD has shot 19 dogs since 1995.
My city is 20 times the size of Cookeville, with 1000+ officers and we haven't shot 19 dogs in that time frame.

Maybe Ofc Hall can shoot State Sen Ford. Ford sounds like a rabid dog and about as smart as one. ;)

I can't remember where I read it but seems to me the ossifer who shot the dog had previously shot 3 other dogs.

If true, training won't help him. He's damaged and needs to be canned.

"Terry said that, in each of those occasions, Hall had followed the department's policies on the use of force"

So......hard to believe any department could have any policy that looks like this one looked when put into action.

OTOH, I assume as long as some department has a policy written down, no matter what it is, no matter how crazy, no matter how constititionally improper,.......its AOK. The officer in the field is covered. No sweat. Pass out the white hats.

We are not a nation even of law anymore...just policies....just "procedures".

There must be a policy that patrol officers are not allowed to use common sense let alone common human decency.

And so ....they burn the dispatchers!

Cookeville PD has shot 19 dogs since 1995.Officer Goober...er, Hall...has three "kills" [including "Patton"], one with his patrol rifle in .223.

Cookeville PD has more than this problem; Saturday before last, one officer shot another in the neck with a .38 after an argument.
Both off-duty but disturbing nonetheless.

Ford is a fool. He pulled a pistol on a truck driver during an I-40 construction slowdown. Stuck it out the sunroof of his car! In spite of witnesses, he skated [what a surprise!] by claiming that it was a cell-phone.

I know my phone looks a lot like my P239...

Cookeville's independent reviewer blames THP officer.
Chief Mary Ann Viverette of Gaithersburg, MD states:
It appears the vehicle was ''cleared'' by a trooper at least 17 seconds before the dog ran out of the vehicle. The fact that there were not additional suspects in the vehicle should have been clearly stated by the trooper. Additionally, I believe that the trooper should have initiated closing the doors of the vehicle after he approached and determined the vehicle was void of additional suspects and the dog was left loose in the vehicle.

Cookeville's independent reviewer blames THP officer.

Horse****.

Let's see.

City of 25K shoots 19 dogs in ~7 years when a city of 500K hasn't. Same "officer" shot 2 prior to Patton. Bubba(s) is(are) triggerhappy.

City has 66 police personnel = way overstaffed for the number of citizens they serve = speedtrap.

Police personnel accused of malfeasance in unauthorized use of city property, namely, automobiles. Can you say "corruption"?

2 "officers" of Cookeville PD shoot each other in drunken brawl, no charges/diversion. Say "corruption," boys and girls.

THP troopers may have suffered cranio-rectal inversion, but in the case of Cookeville, this is SOP and a terminal case. They should abolish the dept. and let the THP and Sheriff take over LE duties.
