MY First BOW Deer!!!!!!!!

Yeah!... got my first bow kill on monday night about 5pm ish... I was set up in a small woodlot...past a nearby pile of blowdowns I kept hearing this Tinking/rattling sound and breaking twigs.... the sound abruptly stops and I see a flash of white with running.... Bucks sparing?

awile later a doe and two fawns pop out and make a fast beeline for the rootmass of a downed tree I was next to... Hmmmm... I was set up on a watering hole!(this is un-scouted newly acquired private land... we decided to just walk in and climb a tree and see what we can see sort of hunting/scouting... its not very big anyway) They were completely concealed in the hole drinking... The mama doe was the first to pop out... when she turns I plant the arrow... Double lung, she didn't go far...

One of the fawns sticks around about 20 yards under the cover of some bushes and low tree canopys... I try to wait the fawn out... it even beds against the base of a tree... eventually the other fawn comes back... The two of them wander away the whole time not passing a single shooting lane...

Oh, and the Tinking/rattleing noise starts up again past the blowdowns...

I plan on returning to that spot eventually to see if I can't get those fawns and maybe discover who is makeing all that noise...

Great job; I'd be happy to come across either in the woods. :) My first (and so far only) deer I got with a bow was probably the most exciting moment of my life - at least in the top 3.

Great job to you both. There no comparison to the feeling after a sucessful bow hunt. Rifle season is fun but archery is just plain addictive.

Awesome hunting. Bow hunting gets you so much closer and enveloped in the hunt. Good eating and great memories.

wyohome... nice elk!!!!

Elk is on my bucket list of animals to hunt...

I'm so hooked on bowhunting...

Had my first miss yesterday:o....
fawn pops out to my far right at nearly last visible shooting hours almost 20 yards from me in a shooting lane I hadn't considered for some reason... I turn and set up the shot... Can just see her at full draw... put my pin on her and release... hear the delightful sound of arrow hitting twig... deer jumps back a foot and looks in opposite direction and up in oak tree its under(prolly thought it was a falling acorn) I reload and watch deer wander away eating acorns... I retrieve the arrow and it has hair stuck in rubberband(looked like it was pulled from the roots) but no blood... Pretty sure I didn't get her but follow deer trail I saw her on just in case.. nothing...just gave her a haircut...

I've only had the misfortune of one miss, and it was on the largest buck that I've had the opportunity to take, and just like you, low light cause me to smack a twig, never found the arrow, followed his trail for about 300yds, no blood, no deer...I was thoroughly hooked after that.

Maybe this year will be better, maybe that buck that has slept under my stand for the last 3 years will be big enough to stick, or he'll be big enough that I'll want to see how good he'll be at 6 or 7...

No... different property.... but I did see the big doe my friend gave a trim to... I was snuggled between two holly trees and 3 huge does came from under one walked directly under me to the other and left....unless I could shoot between my legs -I couldn't get them.... but one had a streak across her shoulder.... and my buddy misjudged a distance earlier in week and trimmed a doe traveling in a pack of 3....

What part of maryland, Eatbugs? Before moving south, I used to live in Charles county and then St Mary's. There weren't many deer around back then. Seeing one was a real rarity.

I got my first deer ever with a bow yesterday!!!! Been bow hunting since last year. I was about halfway down a small mntn. I saw a doe at the top of the mntn. (about 150 yards) on an old access trail. As soon as she put her head down to eat I stood up. I stood there for about 20 min, and waited for her to come down the hill. She finally made it down, and came to the side of the tree I couldnt get a shot at. She ended up coming under my stand. At this point my heart was pounding and I was almost shaking. I started telling myself my shot procedure so that I wouldnt just draw and release and miss. Well she finally began walking into a shooting lane at about 20yrds. There was one tree that if she went behind it would be my only chance to draw the bow, otherwise she was headed up the mntn again and I would be shooting at her butt. She went behind the tree, I drew back, and when she came out she was quartering awayfrom me. I literally had about 5 seconds before my chance was gone. I picked my kill spot and released. I shot down through the lungs and right out of the heart. Perfect shot!!!! It was awsome. I have never felt anything like it. I am 27 years old and just began hunting last year, and its by far one of the greatest experiences I have ever had. I am sorry if I have drawn away from your kill story. I was just so excited. and congrats to you as well. There is nothing like the reward of bow hunting. Just knowing that your so still and scent free that a deer doesnt know you exsist and will walk within feet of you. WOW!! cant wait to see that big buck!

Nice slickhead you got there EatBugs!

Hopefully next year I can be set up and ready for bow season. I want to try my hand at stick and string. :)
