On biker costumes and guns

Here's a story the biker thread reminded me of:
There was a certain Warrant-Officer on my previous base (Ordnance Branch Military Academy) who was in charge of maintaining all the Armourer and Ammunition Technician course. He was this fattish, respectable looking Moldovan Jew with thick glasses and a worn-out field uniform.
And there was The Bike. Big, shiny, cool-looking, it was standing in the parking lot, and it made us cadets wonder: just who does the foul thing belong to? And so we're sitting there, looking at the bike, discussing the identity of the possible owner.
Suddenly one of us notice the Warrant-Officer come by, wearing the biker gear and a CZ on his hip. Mounts the bike and speeds out of the Academy.
If that wasn't a good, upstanding member of society, I don't know who is!:D

I think most of us at The High Road consider guns as tools, so also is a motorcycle, leather jackets, gloves, boots and chaps. A gun keeps you safer in dangerous situations. A motercycle is a form of transportation that is so much better than any other I have found, and leather keeps you warm and safer than any other clothing. Jim.

There is no material that can replace leather for abrasion resistance.

Bikes, especially the big mean loud looking ones made in places like York Pennsylvania or Milwaukee Wisconsin have no peers when it comes to transportation. Half the people love them and appreciate them even if they don't own one, the other half hates them because they are loud and look dangerous and forboding, especially with a 250 lb leather clad dude sitting on it. Maybe people are drawn or repulsed to hogs for the same reason they have feelings for guns.

Biker costumes and guns?
I still haven't figured out where to stash my gun when I'm wearing Lycra shorts and a jersey with four different colors, none of which are found in nature. :D

Chris, I could suggest a hiding place, but to do so would NOT be in accordance with the traditions of the High Road... :D

It's protective gear when you wear enough of it to be protective. An open leather vest w/o a shirt isn't protective gear. It's a costume. Google "The Village People" if you need examples.
As for motorcycles, I've owned and ridden a bunch over the years, including a couple of Benellis. They made better shotguns than they did bikes.
FWIW, the issue in the original thread wasn't his costume or his transportation. It was where and when he chose to openly wear a gun.

Oh but it was very much about his garb.
Would he have received the same attention dressed in Dockers and a Polo shirt? Unlikely.
Erik - who notices he is treated differently depending on how he dresses on occassion.

Dockers and polo shirt with an outside shoulder holster and 9mm? Yes, he would have received just the same attention as he did in his biker drag. I know the officers and deputies involved. The issue was the gun, not his costume.
