Although your CCW gun isn't supposed to be a safe queen I would like to keep it scratch free if possible. I have a Kimber Crimson Carry and I'd like to know your opinions on what a nice holster would be for it. It's the 5" model and I'd like it to be an IWB.

Get a leather holster, not Kydex. It will reduce the wear to a degree.

Kydex will make smaller wear marks but they will appear faster. Leather will tend to make larger wear patterns, but at a slower rate.

In the mid 80’s I bought a new, pre-enhanced, series 80s Colt Government and had it worked over by Teddy Jacobson a few years later. The cost of the gunsmithing, at the time, was about $500. Call it $1,000 today. The gun has since ridden in holsters, been “Mexican” carried, thrown under truck seats, etc., and had a bazillion rounds put through it, and it looks like hell. It has NEVER bobbled; shoots and shoots, and is very accurate. It’s scratched, dinged, and worn. Big, heavy scratches. The bottom line is this gun has never failed and I couldn’t care less what it looks like. It’s a tool. I’m not picking on the OP but, people need to get over wear on their carry gun. If one carries and actually uses a defensive weapon, they won't stay looking pristine for very long.

Hello friends and neighbors // I use thin soft leather IWB but firearm will wear at clip and muzzle.

Really ,if it is a shooter, its worth is already reduced . I don't worry about wear myself I'll be putting too many rounds thru it.

I'm with Burrhead, I have a 3914 that I've been carrying for years. I was looking it over the other day and it occurred to me that it looks like hell. But, it always works, hits where it's pointed and is a constant companion. It's a tool not a trophy, if you're going to shoot it it's gonna get scratched.

As far as a holster, Milt Sparks Summer Special, 20 years and still going strong.

Holster wear is a matter of gun carrying life - either kydex or leather. You can, to some degree, reduce the rate of wear on a gun by keepng the holster clean of dirt and debris.

Use an appropriate cleaning solvlent for the material in question and keep at it. As I said it will reduce the rate of wear but it won't eliminate it.

You could always start out with an ugly gun in the first place.
Carried guns get scratches and wear spots, not just from the holster, but from being along for the ride everywhere you go.
I have a weird dent/smear in the polymer frame of my CC pistol, I assume it is from running into something while it was holstered.
I've been packing that same pistol for a few months, and it already shows some smoothing of the texture at the high spots, which I'm sure will become wear given time.

All you can do to minimize it is:
1-get a good holster custom-molded for your gun
2-minimize holstering/drawing (load it up, holster it, and LEAVE IT THERE until you need it out)
3-figure out what it will cost to refinish it down the road, you can always save up for the super-duper indestructible finish job after you beat the crap out of it

I just gave my PT1911 a good rub down with a gun cloth and its really showing some holster wear.Mainly from my clothes brushing it as my kydex holster is foam lined.
Im kinda excited to see it wear a bunch more,Taurus puts the bluing on thin anyhow.
It also has a few scratches that came from i don't know where,but a sharpie fixed that up.
If your gonna use it,its gonna get wear and tear no matter what you do.

When I first picked up my 92FS for a CCW, I bought a Kydex paddle holster (it was cheap and I had already broken the bank with the Beretta). I got serious wear marks on the slide QUICKLY. A buddy liked the holster and offered me an even trade on a nice Cobra gunleather paddle holster. I took it without batting an eye. my pistol has suffered no more visible wear since.

I just consider it a badge of pride. It shows that your weapon actually gets used, unlike a safe queen. That said, my 1911 started showing wear after a couple of months in a kydex holster. It bugged me at first, then I got used to it. I can always get it refinished later.
