Do you mean .17 HMR? If so, never used it. If not, never used it.

-Great idea I say. Rimfire ammo needs jacketed bullets, they should do that to them all. This ain't the 19-th century anymore.

Early on, I was a bit sceptical about the .17 HMR when is was first intoduced and when it hit the market. The only benefit I saw from it was its very flat trajectory as compared to the .22 mag. Why spend the extra (then) $4-$5 per box of ammo when all you had to do was hold a little higher. Wasn't for or against it really but didn't see any use for it as the .22 mag could do it just as well.
After reading the posts by folk who did buy the guns and ammo, it started to pique my interest. The guns and ammo were shooting much tighter groups that I would have guessed.
About 3-4 weeks ago, I went and bought a .17 HMR barrel/stock conversion from Butler Creek for the Ruger 10/22M (pretty new product). As usual, simple drop-ins. I had topped it with a BSA 8-32X40 Mildot. I had tried CCI (hp), Hornady (plastic tip), Federal (hp), and Remington (plastic tip). The Fed load was pretty new as it wasn't even on their website at the time I bought it. Seeing that they are part of Blount now, I wouldn't doubt CCI is loading the ammo for them (or even the other way around) as both hp and the packaging seem identical. The Horn and Rem ammo also seemed very similar to one another.
The hps didn't do very well in precision as I was getting about 2½-3" at 100 yds. The plastic tipped ammo, though, seemed very accurate at 1-1½". I could have probably done much better had I a better scope. I was fighting the eyerelief of that dang BSA the entire time. The more I shot the gun the more I didn't like the scope. I think I'm gonna sell it off. Already ordered a Tasco Super Sniper 20X from SWFA. (Wanted to check out all the talk about these Super Snipers.) Also, the zero for 100 yds was the same for 50 yds in the setup I used. (Stock Ruger medium height rings.)
There were some stovepipes but the gun has not been fired much at no more than 200 rounds of .22 mag through it. Also found the solution of the cartridges hanging up in the Ruger magazine which I experienced with the .17 HMR but never had a problem with using .22 mag. The problem was first brought up by a fellow shooter before I bought the conversion.
In short, the accuracy of the (tipped) .17 HMR, has persuaded me to the other side. The flat shooting part is just icing. Very much for the cartridge now. Plus ammo is now as low as $8-$9 / 50.

Got one, like it, fast, not too loud, and make a good size hole in a groundhog at 80yrds with a grazing shot and no exit hole on a groundhog shot squarely at 50yrds, just jelly. My Ruger 77/17 shoots 1" groups at 100yrds. No recoil, and if shot far enough away you can see impact through the scope. Down side not to much energy left at 200yrds and wind will play a factor in accuracy.
Overall, thumbs up.
