I once shot a Wolfs so big and heavy, I had to lift his head into the sled , tie it down, and THEN the rest of that Floppy fellow.
BIG Alpha, after a sucessfull summer. his skin hung from my celing hook to the floor where his back legs and tail lay a couple tile squares over.
If that wolf is that big, that Bearhug is the only hold that will do.
I think Real. its not a record.

I don'[t know if thats photoshopped or not, but I do know that one of the Idaho congressman (Bill Sali, perhaps) has a stuffed wolf in his office and its huge. The one he has is a female, so I could definitely imagine a male could be as big as the one in the pic.

Fake email or not...wolves can get quite a bit bigger than most people realize. I've never seen one quite that big, but I have seen a few that would easily go 150 lbs.

Shot near Gogama, Ontario Canada over a bear bait last week near the water-shed.
The following version of this picture's story has it shot while... "wondering around their camp site for a few hours, they got a little nervous and someone killed it".
http://forum.ebaumsworld.com/showthread.php?t=304373
Then, of course, this additional version claims the wolf was... "found just out of Edson , Alberta ".

Is anyones BS meter still not pegged yet? It should be red-lined by now.
But here's another cool picture. Also fake, is my guess.

Hello friends an neighbors // could easily be real
They have long legs like that and proportions seem right if you put wolfs rear on ground.
When solo hiking in Glacier / Waterton N.P. Ranger showed me a plaster cast of a wolf print the size of a dinner plate.
Camped 2 1/2 mi. from Goat Haunt something did sniff my boots that night (I was thinking mountain goat looking for salt cause I had seen a bunch that day) I just reached out and pulled them into tent. Having hiked 12-14 miles from lake Cameron I was too tired to be scared.
If I had seen that thing, .44 Redhawk or not, I'd have left right then even though I have realised since and been told here on THR wolves don't generally attack people.

Looking at it again I think the size is exaggerated because he's leaning way back. Plus you can see his other leg behind the tail, which puts the wolf in perspective.

Real wolves howled at the edge of town night after night, but the wolf pictured exists only in someone's imagination.

Could be photoshopped, but "Why"?
Table saucer sized prints is definitly more like it ~~LOL!!~~
Wolves are that big, some bigger.
Wolves are "fuzzy" with all the under hairs and guard hairs.
Yes, maby that guy is 5'-8" and leaning back, but it looks real to me.
The pictures with the guys with the snowgo's could be "me" but im a Polaris kinda guy in Polaris country :neener:
Arctic Tundra Wolves are long and lean untill they "Fuzz up" as we call good huntable/trappable Fur around here, Northwest Arctic Alaska.
While those guys are big, I think they are Alpha/Beta wolves, myself.
I shoot them for fun and profit:evil:
Not uncommon, and easily 500$+ to a raw fur buyer.:D

Is it photoshopped? Could be, but if it is, they didn't exaggerate by much. An average mature male wolf is about 6'6'' from the tip of it nose to the tip of it's tail. Consider that's an average size man, and the picture a bad angle with a wide angle lens, that wolf is only about 7'. Just slightly above average.

I'm with caribou on this one. IMO i think its a real photo. However, judging the size of the dog is easy if you can judge the size of the man holding it. I think its a little fella holding the wolf but I still think he's well over 150 lbs.
A good friend of mine killed one on a deer hunting trip in Canada and was standing next to him where he was hanging and i couldnt believe the size of the thing. They can be massive creatures.
Anyway, just my 2 cents

I think it's real, I've seen several photos of guys holding or hanging wolves that big over the years. And it don't think it's a big dude holding it. I don't believe it is photoshopped. I don't know or care why the conflicting information about where it was shot, but it doesn't look fake to me. And the reason for the difference in focus is simple, if you know anything about photography, and the guy who took the photo probably doesn't.

Yes, a bear paw! This hunter was holding up a bear until someone added the wolf over top. Between the wolfs front paws right up against his chest, you can still see the paw from the bear. That is, unless this wolf had some sort of fifth paw growing out of his chest lol.

For all you "Doubting Thomases" out there who don't think these Canadian Grey wolves get as big as the one in the picture, here is one that was killed on authorization of U.S. F&W and Idaho F&G. It, and some of it's playmates, were killing livestock over in the Danskin Mtn. area about 50/60 miles northeast of Boise, Idaho.
The man in the first picture is the authorized shooter, and the man in the second picture wearing the blue jump suit is the pilot of the helicopter. He is approximately 6'4" tall.
If anyone is in the Boise, Idaho, area, go to the Idaho F&G headquarters on Walnut Street, downtown, and take a look at the full body mounts of some wolves there. Might change your ideas about how large these Canadian Grey wolves grow.

I belive its real. I have seen a few wolves in person and they do get very big. I also own a wolf hybrid and he can stand on his back legs and look me in the eye and I'm 5'10. He weighs about 120 but is still growing. I figure he will be at least 140 or 150 when he is fully grown. Now he is a hybrid so he is not a pure wolf but it gives you some reference.

That picture was photoshopped, the wolf came from a photo taken from a Canadian outfitters hunting pictures (seen it many times, unmistakeable), the wolf was photoshopped in, who knows what the guy is holding, probably nothing.
Adult male gray wolves can grow to 130 lbs in a year and a half under the right conditions. They can reach 150 lbs if they have a good pack to help them out. There are a few rare examples that reached 177lbs (one in Alaska and one in Mongolia).
The gray wolf is the largest member of the canine family, although they appear thin, elongated, and under the fur built like a grayhound, they are very heavy, muscular, and far stronger than any dog the same size could ever get.
The average adult male is around 30-32 inches at the shoulder, with a very long body. For comparison my bigger dog is 27 or more inches at the shoulder, and 80 lbs, also Im 6ft tall.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z281/SHvar/Picture412.jpg
Its a shame to kill the alpha male or female, they mate for life, and teach their pack to fear humans, avoid livestock, and stay inside their territory.
The single roaming young inexperienced skinny little single male or female without a pack are the wolves in 99% of all cases which cause problems actually involving wolves.

By the way there is NO DIFFERENCE between Canadian gray wolves, Alaskan gray wolves, and any other subspecies of canis lupus. The only difference between the gray wolves brought into the north west and those which have always lived in the great lakes region is that the great lakes region wolves have dog genetics polluting their gene pool, therefore is does no good to refer to them as Canadian grays.
Aside from the Arctic wolf, the Red wolf, and the Mexican wolf, the others are all the same sub-species in North America.

I am just waiting to see one of them on SF of the Boise, I know they are around there (along with black bear and some pretty decent sized cougars) and I expect them VERY close to Mt Home very soon. Having said that there are rumors of wolf sightings at CJ Strike. I know near there while coyote hunting I saw a pair of what I thought were Yotes but they would have been world record size (ok maybe an exaggeration as I dont know what the record yote is) if they were close enough to shoot. And after the wolf rumor I know have my doubts if they were indeed Yotes.

ok this pic could be real. the wolf in this picture is a grey wolf. the largest grey wolf on record was measured to be at 3' 2" at the shoulder and the heaviest one weighed 190lb. so when you consider this and look at the picture this wolf is definitely in that ballpark range.

Highly unlikely. If that picture was real, it would easily weigh 350+lbs. My buddy has a 3yr old male American Mastiff. He weighs ~175lbs and is much smaller than that pictured wolf.

This wolf was shot by Jim Johnston near Edson Alberta in may of 2009 over a bear bait. It weighed 197 pounds. Guide Jeff Grimolfson filmed the hunt that was later aired on The Hunting Chronicles on WILD TV. It was also featured in the fall 2009 issue of BIG BUCK magazine.

Looks photoshopped. There is something wrong with the front left paw - its upside down or backwards. Also, as someone mentioned, there's a 5th paw near the mans left shoulder. Finally, if you follow the other links, you can see the grainier pictures. Why the difference in film?

Check the records, the largest wolves ever were 177lbs and a few ounces (one in Alaska, one more recently in Mongolia).
Anyone who cant tell that picture is photoshopped (quite badly at that) needs to get their eyes checked.
The original picture the wolf was taken from is alot older than 2009, its been used in the same canadian outfitters website for many years.

Man’s legs are not placed properly to support weight of wolf. Unless that’s his right leg partially hidden by wolf’s tail; in which case man’s right leg is a foot longer than his left.
Position of hands and arms not correct for human anatomy.

How can the guy even hold it up, past his head for the shot? A wolf like that will definitely be heavy and once dead, you better be one strong SOB to pick him up off the ground and get him over your head for a picture.

I use photoshop for work a bit and looked at the picture quite closely, on a pixel level, and its altered. it's a pretty good job, but hair is tough to photoshop...and shadows are always a dead giveaway. note the shadow on the guys left leg, but none for his right (+tail should = bigger shadow).
However, wolves do get that size - i've seen a couple close to that size up around the Stanley basin, out of my former roommates' plane window; and there were some hanging out in Greenhorn Gulch between Ketchum and Hailey, ID last winter.

The latest issue of North American Hunter has the picture and story in it on the last page. The guide and client were sitting over bear bait when the wolf came in. Oh, and they video taped the whole thing. The video is supposed to be on the website, but I have not had the time to look for it.
For now, I'm saying real. Wolves can certainly get that big. The skull of this wolf has been submitted to B&C for the record book, so at this point I doubt there was any fakery.

Nothing on the website at all in reference to that picture, videos of it, Gogama Ontario Canada, or of bear hunting in that area.
Its a photoshopped hoax, an obvious one.
Just like the artcle that circulated several hunting magazines that referred to a single wolf attacking and killing 16 hunting dogs, then attacking the hunter who shot it (no official record exists in North Americas history of this event), actually some mags gave him credit for shooting it, some didnt. The actual sitution was a bear hunters hounds (8 of them I believe) which were killed (all but one, which cowered injured on his owners lap before the wolf ran away) approaching wolf pups with their mother in a rendevous site. The male wolf defended his family from what instinct told him was a rival canine pack.
The hunter saw the wolf which took one look at him and ran away. It was a dog training incident (July 4th weekend), the hunter was training his dogs in an area which the wildlife were protected by law and he did not carry his rifle or shotgun while training the dogs, which were running loose not under his direct control or supervision. This is why it took him so long to get to the dogs, and they were all killed. The area is protected from hunting (also too close to recreational areas) but it was common for hunters to train their dogs there, even when they were warned about the wolves rendevous sites, and the time of year causing conflict with the local wildlife.
Like I said, I have a copy of the picture somewhere that the wolf came from, the guy and that wolf do not belong in the same photo, its obvious. that guy added the wolf from the other photo. The actual wolf is big, but not that big.
Looking at the picture, its obvious that its photoshopped and fake, I cant believe people dont see it.

Do you think they would retract the picture or story? The story that so many hunting mags posted that I mentioned was never retracted even after the actual hunter involved corrected the story, instead the mag websites just took down the corrected info posted by others.
