I have a DPMS bull barrel upper and a Sightron Big Sky SII 4-16 I want to mount for 2-300 yard target shooting.

I also have Magtech BUIS sights that I would like to keep mounted with the scope on.

What type of rings would you suggest? If I could, I would like rings that could instantly detach and then attach when I wanted to shoot distance.

Any suggestions?

The scope centerline wants to be approximately 1.40 inches above the rail. That's the same centerline as the iron sights on an AR, and yields a comfortable cheek weld for most shooters. The Larue LT-104 is a mount "system" that comprises two rings and a solid base with a QAD. Its a little pricey, however. Burris has a new similar system( I think its called PEPR or something like that) for about half the price, if I recall. The issue is getting adequate eye relief. Individual rings wont get you there--at least they wouldn't with mine, and you need to cantelever the scope ahead of the receiver rail which the solid base mount systems allow you to do.

Whether these mount systems will clear your BUIS, I don't know. Depends on the sight and the scope.

Yeah, I think I settled on trying the Burris P.E.P.R. 1" to start. If I MUST I will go with a Larue but, that's a bit much!

I started with Mk IV Leupold rings (ultra high) but the scope wanted to be about 3/4" further forward than the rings would allow. Would have gone with the Burris had it been availble at the time, but it wasn't so opted for the LaRue. Its a quality product but crazy expensive. You do get a LaRue cap and bottle opener, however, with every order.

I've owned three PEPR's and they're ok. One of mine has issues (build and ESO issues). The retaining screws stripped and the retaining plate bent. Yea, it is ultimately my fault, but the dang scope/rounds were wandering all over on two different guns. It turned out to be the mount, but I'm not sure that the screw/plate damage was the cause or a symptom of my cranking down on them to tighten things up.

i highly recommend arms #19 base and which ever height of arms rings to fit it it may be costly compared to some but the nice thing about it the rings are locked and stable on 1 base together and the trow levers make it easy to install and remove quickly i have the arms 40 low profile as a BUIS these are on my go to rifle and have never failed me and i have been using them for several years the 19 locks back into place and back to zero

i also have the pepr and have used leupold and warne extra high and they all work good as well

arms also has a outstanding warrentee when i first got the arms it was gray and i wanted it black so i took it apart to paint it well it did not go together well i sent it back to arms told them i would pay for the repairs since i screwed it up and they fixed it for free.

another thing they do look good on the rifle some extra tall rings just don't look right. the pepr look nice but requires a wrench if you want to go to irons
