Rented a 1911 the other day

I haven't handled a 1911 since I first started shopping for handguns so I thought "Hell, for $5 and ammo I should give em a go!"

So I rented a Kimber Stainless Target II and bought a box of Speer Lawman 230gr ball to put through it.

I have to say, nice gun. Pointed much better for me than I remember (of course I've grown a bit) but didn't feel quite "right". As I got some rounds through it and got used to the feel I was shooting quite well indeed.

Not a hickup despite obviously needing to be cleaned. I was impressed. I can see why so many people like them. Single action trigger was nice. Still, I'm not a convert. Another nice gun but my next handgun purchase is still likely to be a Witness 10mm and before you start, yes I know they suck out of the box, it's going to be a "project gun".

If I find a good deal and have the money I certainly won't shy away from a 1911 style gun like I used to.

Wow, a middle of the road 1911 guy, that makes what, 3 of us? :D

When I first tried a 1911, it felt weird to me also. However, it quickly grew on me. Now one of my 1911s is my second favorite and my best shooting pistol, beat out for favorite only by my trusty CZ-75.

Who told you that the Witness sucked? Mine has a better trigger than
the Beretta USA POS that I had before the Tanfoglio.

The good thing about the 1911 is that shooters often trade or sell
'superior guns like CZs, BHPs and H&Ks when they want another project
1911. Unlike most 1911s, these other guns don't need gunsmithing to
work from the box.

1911s were good in 1911 when they were the only .45 autos around.
Nowdays- there are many modern designs that eclipse JMB's brainchild.

One has to ask: Would the 1911 be so popular if it was only ever a 9mm
or .38 super?

Probably not. The P-35 is smaller, lighter, and holds more rounds...
a marked improvement over the 1911 in the eyes of many.

I just got back into shooting just about a year ago, before that I shot alot of .22 and air guns as a young tike, and a few larger guns when dad or someone would take me out.
Anyways, I have to say that I love the 1911 style handguns. Out of all the handguns that I have tried over the past year or so, the 1911 feels the best in my hands and I shoot them much better than anything else.

Yes I have to say that alot of the popularity of the 1911 is probably because of the 45 acp, and also that it has such a long history in the US military. But I also enjoy shooting them in other than the .45, I have them in 9mm, and looking to buy a .22 conversion. Like I said they feel really good to me and I shoot them well.

Also IMO they are the best looking handguns;)

I've heard that the Tangfolios are good guns but quality control and durability are a little more hit and miss compared to higher priced guns like the CZs and what-not.

I want a long-slide 10mm auto and hoping I can find a Witness to fit the bill.

I believe the guy in the next lane was talking about the "project gun" being a 1911..and they sucked out of the box..not the Witness.....

I personally love them. I find the design simple, effective and easy for a begginer to strip to nothing and get it back togethor again...and modify from there.

The only gun as mechanicaly simple is a Makarov and Ill second my thoughts on the design....simple and effective.

Ill have another 1911 sometime...................

Shoot well.
