Here are the pictures I promised to post of my new 19-4. It really is in fantastic condition.

My question is should I shoot with it or should I try to preserve it?

It's a gun, and they're designed to do one thing: Be shot.

Use it, love it, and give us a range report. Or sell it to buy something you WILL use.

Shoot it!
If you don't, you just spent a bunch of money on a really cool paper weight.

I would shoot it. If you clean it properly after every range session, it will lose little if any value. While it is very nice, it probably would not be the first choice for a collector, as it doesn't appear to have the original (wood) stocks. My 2 1/2" M19-4 is one of my favorite shooters - very accurate for a short-barreled gun. I have Pachmayr Compac grips on mine and recoil is not uncomfortable, even with the highest power loads.

I do have brand new factory wood grips and an extra 4" barrel (all I could find but brand new) but honestly I am leaning toward using and carrying it and I am one of those habitual cleaners anyway with my semi-autos.
Thanks

Bearhands (http://www.thehighroad.org/member.php?u=43722) - yeah I was totally lucky. A dealer not that far from me had the barrel and grips taken off of a brand new gun, he didn't have the spring or pin but I still took the barrel...here's where I got them:
