I have a Hawa Long action rifle. It currently is a wildcat. I was wanting to see about making it a 7mm or a 300 mag. Bull barrel, new stock, you know, long rang stuff. Where do I begin?

What caliber is it now? Is the barrel stock, or custom?

Howa rifles have been know to shoot quite well.

Are you capable of doing the work yourself, or are you looking for gunsmith recommendations?

Right now the barrel is measuring 27 caliber. Two different gunsmiths have told me that the barrel would need to be replaced anyway unless I want to cast the gun and then pay for wildcat custom ammo.

And yes, I am looking for gunsmith recommendations in the Southeast, preferably GA.

OK, let me ask the same question another way: What cartridge is your wildcat based on?

I'm not sure. The gun was given to me by a friend who had it in his closet for 15 years. A former boyfriend of his wife built it and gave it to her 17 years ago. Back to present, a 27 caliber bullet will fit in the barrel, but the action will not close. She said she thought it was a 270, but like I said, the action won't close.

why not measure the chamber and reload for it when you are sure which caliber it is?
