Pump Shotgun Picture Thread

Since the pump shotgun is inherently American, I thought it'd be nice to have a thread devoted solely to it.

I also think it would be a nice way for the experienced shotgunners to demonstrate to the new ones how plain and simple shotguns are just as effective or even more so than ones with lots of accessories.

Only changes were a sling, barrel and an oversized saftey I can snap off with my second index finger joint. 18.5" IC choke barrel and a Latigo sling. I never even put the extension on. Nice to have if I ever have to "millitia up", though. It normally carries a butt cuff with 1 buck.

The digital pattern is really good. How did you camo your M500?

Mossberg did it. I bought it that way. The pattern is "OEM Mossberg". They offer the brand patterns, too. All the major companies have camo models. They do it via a paint dip process. Actually, you can have it done to an existing firearm, too. It's a very tough finish, protects well against corrosion. That's a good thing in the salt marsh and on the bays.

dak0ta
September 30, 2009, 05:12 PM
I don't think they use that pattern on the current models. But it's cool nonetheless. Digital camo seems to work better based on studies. Adds more distance between the observer and camo before being detected.

I don't find camo necessary on a shotgun, but it helps stave off the rust.

He did trade up though, IMO. M25 to Ithaca 37 featherweight 20ga, then to a 1961 Pigeon grade Browning Superposed, round knob, long tang 20ga.

Winchester 1300 Ranger; 28" VR Winchoke bbl.

This one has:
-shot a 25 straight in skeet
-won an Annie Oakley & a Bushwhacker
-taken deer, pheasants & squirrels
-served as an HD gun (it sometimes wears an 18.5 " barrel)
-given me countless hours of fun for the past 15 years

Not too bad for a $200 (new!-it seemed like a lot of money back then...) gun.

Ok, il be posting thse in all three shotgun pictures threads. Its, a pump action, (slightly) "tactical" home defense shotgun.

H&R Pardner Pump. 12 gauge, 3" chamber, 5 shot tube.
http://img121.imageshack.us/img121/6530/1001419q.jpg (http://img121.imageshack.us/i/1001419q.jpg/)
http://img194.imageshack.us/img194/4638/1001420xm.jpg (http://img194.imageshack.us/i/1001420xm.jpg/)

Added an ATI heat shield (because I have burned myself on the barrel before, but not after getting the heat shield), 5 round butt cuff, and painted the whole gun in 500 degree engine enamel for rust proofing.

It patterns buckshot nicely, given the cylinder bore, and shoots winchester foster slugs POA at 25 yards (the longest range ive shot them at so far), and most importantly, its action is slick and feeds anything you put in it (it feeds the brass rears cutt off the rest of the hull of the shell, no lie).

My newest. Plain ol' Mossberg 500 from Wal-Mart in 20 ga.

http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b292/CajunBass/101_0001.jpg

My oldest. Sears/Mossberg. 12 ga. 28" with a modified choke. This one has put more than a few deer down with 3" Number 1 buckshot. It also has a smoothbore slug barrel that I've never used. I got it in 1977. I did the camo myself years ago.

http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b292/CajunBass/Sears2.jpg

This one is my dad's turkey shoot gun. It's a Sears (Winchester) 200. 30" full choke. He won many a turkey, ham, slab of bacon and a few 'side pots' with this one.

No, that's the Rapadan River, a tributary of the Rappahanock, above Fredericksburg. There are ducks and geese on it all the time however. From time to time as I sit here at the computer I see canoes floating down. Depending on the season they're either smallmouth fishing, or duck hunting.

My Mossberg 500 I bought for $125 to use for HD duty. It was rusty, dented, dinged and scratched up when I bought it. I refinished it in July. It came with a 24in rifled slug barrel and I already had a 24in smoothbore slugger barrel. I cut the smoothbore barrel down it 18.5 and sweated the rifle sights back on. I took all the finish off the receiver, mag tube, and both barrels. Then I baked on a ceramicoat finish. The stock was refinished using elbow grease, Minwax Mahogany Red stain, and Tru Oil.

No offense taken.
It's no looker, but I have yet to find a gun that shoots or feels better. I've shot a lot of my friends guns, before and after getting the Protector, and nothing else comes close (in price, shot or feel).
The forend isn't doing it any favors in the looks department either but it feels much better than the factory grip.

Here is a crappy photo of my two shot guns. On the left is a Winchester model 120 Youth 20ga 21" barrel with the winchoke and the youth stock replaced with an adult stock from a 12ga 120 ranger. It fits well enough but is a little bit wider on the right side, not a big enough deal to care about. It is also a satin finish instead of glossy so the forearm and stock do not match. Its a working gun, I don't care. Still have the youth stock for when my kids are old enough to use it. For now it is the house/upland game gun. This is the first gun that was ever mine, my dad bought it for me new in 1986 when I was 11. It is my favorite gun.

The other is my dad's old 870 wingmaster from 1973 with a fixed modified choke. I use it for waterfowl.

Off topic: as a child, my Dad taught me guns should be always stored with the bolt open. Am I wrong here? Most of you have it closed. An open bolt instantly tells you a gun is unloaded.

The only gun I keep the bolt closed on is the Ruger Mk II and that's just because it stores easier and you're pretty safe knowing it's unloaded without a magazine in it.

I leave bolts closed on most, Open on others. But I for taking pictures, Always closed. I just chamber check everything I pick up anyway. "All guns are always loaded." Is a rule I remember, and have never had an ND.
Some guns bolt open is the fastest way to get loaded. Saiga 12 mag in, bolt locked back.

Have a maverick 88 that needs some pictures taken of it. Cheap gun, and highly underrated I believe.

I leave actions open for safety, as even if it was loaded, a open action cannot fire, whether it is loaded, SAFETIES CAN AND WILL FAIL, but an open action is the perfect way to store a gun. Of course for pics, closing the bolt may make it look better.

Having my CCW doesn't make me paranoid, it makes me prepared.

If you were paranoid you would carry your shotgun.

No digi cam at the moment to upload pics of the kids :) Hlq, that straight stocked 870 do you happen to know the vintage or what not, I'd like to find that stock/foregrip combo for my old wingmaster.

I found this lightly used Remington 870 Wingmaster 12 gauge about a month ago at my local gun shop!

This is my 12 ga. 1956 Ithaca Model 37 riot gun all dressed up.

Barrel cut to 18.5" with brass bead installed
Original ringtail pump handle.
12.75" LOP to end of Galazan sunburst pad.
Stock was purchased online for $25 and came with hand checkering and an ivory grip cap.
Spent hours sanding and refinishing the stock and the ivory

I know its overdone for a riot gun, but I like it
