I was looking at purchasing an expander die and mandrel from Sinclair to remove the dents and dings I find on some new cases.

If I use this coupled with full length sizing... should I remove the expander ball from the decapping rod and just rely on the mandrel for forming the case neck?

NOTE: I'm not a bench rest shooter, but a hunter who likes accuracy. Also... I don't plan on doing any neck turning and have all the fun that it brings. ;)

I would. No sense dragging a nasty expander ball thru your necks that you intend to use the expanding mandrel on anyways.

Anything you can fix will be fixed by the expander ball in the FL sizing die.

All an extra step with another expander ball would do is work the brass an extra time every reload.

No such animal. Hornady makes replacement spindles for RCBS dies. But, carbide expander balls are only available for Redding dies and Dillon.

I believe Redding used to make carbide balls to fit RCBS dies. They may still, or I could be mistaken entirely. I am gettin' old ya know. ;)

Bush pilot just went in and changed the Redding carbide expander from my Redding sizer to my RCBS sizer, no problem.I thought they inter-changed but wasn't sure.I think(again I'm not sure here)RCBS dies are the only ones that inter-change.

I knew someone made carbide expander balls at one time, I couldn't remember which company. I would think if dies came with that option they would be a big seller.

The Sinclair tool will open your cases and without sizing you will only have about .002" bullet tention. I think you should look at your expander ball can you polish, or stone the edges? chuck up it up in drill, they are hard you won't hurt it! That expander and mandral are realy made for thier neck turning tool, and it's realy not something 95% of us, need to mess with. good luck eric sinclair
