I know that the search function is alive and well, but (if you'd be so kind) could some of you offer some bullet statements offering facts on assault weapons so that it's all concise in one thread? I'm considering rebutting a very misinformed Letter to the Editor supporting the ban on "assault weapons" - not that it'll make any difference and leading into the importance of the US Constitution and so on. Your thoughts on the subject would be greatly appreciated and then I'll maybe get started on my 18th Letter to the Editor on 2nd Amendment Rights.
No matter what anyone says at least I'm not supporting partial birth abortions like many of the legislators around here who do and who also support total gun bans. Sorry about that. Just blowing off some steam. I do support a total ban on crime, though, if that means anything.

Just to let you know. There was a very "anti" editorial in my own paper in San Diego. I sent them a copy of Gunfacts (http://www.keepandbeararms.com/downloads/GunFacts_v3.2.pdf) and print out a couple of excerpts (which were fully indexed and referenced by government agencies, just click the section, "Assault Weapons") that countered the lies they allowed to be printed. Not only did I get a reply thanking me, but they apologized to me about using an editorial from another paper and nopt checking the facts. THEN, the next week, they printed a kick @$$ pro-gun, stop the ban type article which listed all the AWB lies of the Brady bunch and denounced them all! They even used some direct evidence that I provided them. So send them the proof they need to know they were wrong, and I'll bet they will happily at least fix the errors. Short sweet, polite, factual evidence.

This article (http://www.claremont.org/projects/doctors/990914wheeler.html) concerns target pistols being regarded as AW's under the Kali AWB. While slightly OT regarding the national AWB, it is still a good example of hysteria and misconceptions leading to overreaching kneejerk legistation.
