I use a .60 caliber patched round ball in my Pedersoli. Allow for the thickness of your patch when buying your load componets.

The Pedersoli Howdah is marked as a 20ga but the bore is .627 or 19 ga plus.001. I use 19ga wads and cards from TOW. For round ball I use 62 cal/.610 from Ozone Mountain Manufacturing.

Thanks, Guys, the gauge and caliber site. I was just trying to find it for older guy in my club. He don't use a computer. We got a shoot tomorrow. He is trying to get me to shoot round balls out of my 12 gauge sxs. He just bought a Howdah 20 guage at Friendship. He is going to try tomorrow. We let you know how it went. We do it all tomorrow shotgun, pistol and rifle. Been practicing with my new TC 45 cal pistol or Patriot. Doing a lot better then I was doing with my traditions 50.

Talk to you all later,

I have an old reproduction I made years ago of a 20 ga Indian trade gun and I shoot 61 caliber lead balls I mold up with a thick pillow ticking patch. I shot a deer with it many years ago on a primitive hunt. It is a flinter and much fun to shoot.

Well I got up to late for shotgun. I made it for pistol and rifle. First for the Howdah. I fired my first howdah and it will be my last for awhile. He filed it with 70gr of powder and 70 gr of number 9 shot. I pulled the trigger, I thought i broke my hand. Wow that was an awaking. I'll more then likley never use my middle finger again. I have trigger gaurd imprint on it. He has to read up on it. That is almost the load I put in my shotgun.
The Patriot was a lot better to shoot. It inproved my score about 25 points.
I came in 3 rd. I guess I should say only 3 pistol shooters showed up. I shot a lot better with the TC then I did with the Traditions. Going to go and practice with it today. I love the set triggers and ther wasn't so much to the right.

Very stupid of your friend. 70grs is a very hot load for that thin Howdah stock. I have shot 50gr in mine and think that's plenty. I'm not nearly as brave as I once was.

I started at 20gr and one ounce of shot. I worked up to 50 and tried one of 60.
I liked 40 the best and 35 was pretty good too.

I load it with 50 and keep it handy. I shoot and clean it once a week. I wear gloves when I shoot 50.

Good Luck and Be Safe

Hi Gene

I hope that you're finger is okay Campbell49T. Did you shoot that Howdah one handed? That grip is probably as thick as a baseball bat and made for holding with two hands. At least you rode that snake and survived! :)

PTL recently posted videos of him firing the same basic load one handed through an 8 inch Stoeger Uplander except with 12 gauge BP shotshells.

2.5 drams is 68.75 grains of BP, and 68 grains of shot equals 1 oz.

I'd try it !! Couldn't be any worse than my 3" magnum load solid slugged Winchester 1200 Police with a pistol grip and 18" barrel. THAT stung the first couple of rounds fired that way. :D

70 grains? don't do that. use 30-35 and you'll be good. see with 30-35 grains you can get 2x shots for every time you shoot with the 70 grain and there is no injury to your body :) it's safer, cleaner, smoother and well just more enjoyable.

Thanks, I wish I would of known all this before. Yes my finger is still sore. It is to cold to go to the range this week. Maybe next week........ for a hand gun I think you are right with around 30gr. I'll let you all know what happens.
As for my TC patriot, The 2nd time out I was using 25gr. My first 5 shots were at 4:00 in the 10 circle. After that I was all over the place. But, my hand was hurting. As for my Traditions Kentucky 50 cal, the Patriot way out class it. Love the set trigger. It helps put lead where I aim.
