I did a search an read some of the posts before posting so I'll probably get griped at for posting a repeated question. Hope to start reloading some M1 Garand brass in the future an wondered how much 8lbs of powder would do an does 159.00 for 8 lbs. sound about right? Been out of reloading for years an sorry for being ignorant to what most of you experts think is so simple.

Not a dumb question. Just divide the charge weight in grains into 7000 grains per pound of powder. Say 48 grains per load divided into 56,000 grains = 1166.66 rounds for that jug of powder.

Looks like you paid about $20.00 per pound, a very good price these days.

Thanks snuffy, thats more than I thought...now to find a good price for bullets around 150 gr.

These 150gr Military M2 bullets (http://www.wideners.com/itemdetail.cfm?item_id=8979&dir=278|281|727) available from Widener's are very good bullets. The link I posted is for their $92/500 bullet order but they also have available a 2000 round (http://www.wideners.com/itemdetail.cfm?item_id=8980&dir=278|281|727) bulk order. Their 145gr, 168gr and 175gr .308" bullets are all good choices. I've shot them all and all of them shot fine but I prefer the 150gr M2 bullets for my Garand.

H-4895 is awesome stuff, but good luck finding it. I was lucky to score 3 lbs of H-4895 at the last gun show. I recently placed an order for 16 lbs of IMR 4895, because it was priced right and available. I don't shoot in temperature extreme's, so it should work just as well as the "H" variant. In my .308, so far, it has!:)

I think 8 pounds would do for ONE 30-06 but it would be a heck of a shot, and best attempted with a LOOONG string on the trigger.
