Seeking some insight on the .358 187 gr FNGC Cast Performance bullet. None of my :cuss: manuals, including the Lyman 49th, contain any specific info on this particular projectile. Since I intend to use either H110 or Lil' Gun, I bought the Hodgdon's manual too, but no luck. I'm sure someone here has experience with this bullet or could point me to the pertinent manual. Thanks in advance--

I don't use that particular bullet, since I cast my own. I do use both RCBS and Saeco 185 grain gas check bullets in my Marlins. For both bullets, I use Lil'Gun, which gives the highest velocity (1710 fps) and best accuracy. Using Hodgdon H-110 and Winchester 296, the same bullet will max out at about 1530 fps from the same rifle.

I don't post loading data on open forums, due to several reasons, but if you want to PM me, I'll share my successes with you.

Hope this helps.

I've used 180gr jacketed data and worked up for my 185gr FNGC I cast.

Crowbar Muldoon,
I've found those 187gr Cast Performance bullets to be just a little too long, because of that I bought their 180gr bullets instead. An added bonus is, there is plenty of data for 180gr bullets for the .357 Magnum.

Have you had any COL problems crimping to the crimp groove with those 187gr bullets or do you have to crimp above the groove? For those who don't know what they look like you can see them HERE (http://www.castperformance.com/Categories.bok?category=Cast+Performance). BTW, their 160gr bullets aren't bad either.

Thank you all for your replies. ArchAngelCD, thanks for bringing the length to my attention--I loaded some dummy rounds, crimped to the crimp groove, and every so often one would hang up if I ran the lever too fast.

Yup; I had similar problems with cast 185's from Beartooth Bullets chambering. They shot well over a pretty good charge of Lil' Gun (in the vicinity of Hodgdon's recommended max for a 180 gr. JHP), but I'm gonna have to back down to 180's if I want them to work for me the way I want them to.

I thought you might run into a problem with those slightly longer 187gr bullets. The 180gr bullets are shorter and deliver just about as much energy.
