Let me go out on a limb here. Uhmmmmm...Colt??

Yes, You should find a nice one for that price. Everything else is a copy of course.

Look for an older 'small' large frame EAA compact. It's commander-sized, and is a double-stack, with 1911 ergonomics. There are only two negatives to it, I think--1) the grip is larger, and might present a carry / concealability issue, and 2) you need to run the rear sight high for most ammo.

It might take a while to find one--but it should be significantly less than $600.00. I had one in .40 S&W, but sold it since I am in the 'clean out' phase of my shooting.

You can find plenty of used Colt Commanders for around 600. I hate the RIAs because they have 4" barrels in stead of 4 1/4". Throws it off and real commander length pistols are 4 1/4".

When I have 600 to spend, I go shopping for a used Colt.

For less than 200 more, you can get a new blue Colt Commander.

"Ford Model-T, because everything else is a copy"

Ya know, that would make sense if all the car companies were selling Model T's today. Obviously, they're not. Or if the 1911 had been improved from the point of it's original design to the point of a Lamborghini today. It has not.

Many (way too many IMO) are selling copies of an original pistol from 1911. Not a modern rendition that has benefitted from 90 years of technology.
Yup. Still copies IMO.
