I've decided to break down and buy an AR-15. What is the best book or CD on disassembly and maintenance?

The U.S. military manual.

But for basic disassembly for cleaning and maintenance, you just need your owner's manual.

Army manuals will definitely give you lots of details. The Bushmaster Operating and Safety Instruction Manual will give you the basics on field stripping and cleaning and can be downloaded here (http://www.bushmaster.com/electronic-documents/operation-manual/opmanual.zip). You can download instructions for assembling a lower receiver from AR15.com which will pretty much show you how to put a lower parts kit in should you feel the desire to strip your lower receiver.

The Marine Corp's M-16 Technical Manual is real good.

I would also suggest you go ahead and purchase a more advanced book and read up as well. Try Glen Zediker's The Competitive AR15. It is an awesome resource about Ars in general, and will get you thinking about the future.
