Musings on My .357's

I'm prone to getting on different kicks, and have been focusing on rifles and/or Contenders for the past six months after a number of years of focusing on handguns.

As part of this most recent kick, I was thinking of selling or trading two or three of my current four .357 magnum revolvers. I've learned not to do things like that totally on impulse, and today I fired 250 or so rounds through my these guns.

The list includes:

2" Model 60 S&W with frame mounted firing pin.

3" Model 66 S&W ( Lew Horton model) with frame mounted firing pin.

4" Model 686 S&W with the square butt and hammer mounted firing pin

2 3/4" stainless Ruger Security Six

On single action, the results varied with the four different loads I tried, with the Model 66 doing the best with the hottest load. The Model 60 held it's own much better than i would have thought.

Not surprising, the 686 was the most comfortable to shoot, and it and the model 66 did equally well on rapid fire double action.

All seem to fill a niche of sorts, and as of now I plan to keep them all. As three of the four are no longer in production, that seems the best course.

Well Bob ..... if you change your mind ... give me a refusal eh?! Looks like we are somewhat opposite sides of the state but .. I'll make a journey if worth it!

Just PM me ......... if you decide later to move that on.

Funny how that happens. I'm to the point now where nearly everything I own is "my favorite".

I know just how you feel Bob. Every now and then, I get the idea to trade my stainless 4" GP-100. So before I do it, I take a trip to the range. After I get bored of creating one ragged hole, I pack up and head home. I then take it down to my bench, clean it up real nice, and put it away. Then I stand there and think, "How could I?". Besides it was a birthday present from my wife.

I have:

3 Model 19s, 2.5", 4", and 6"

2 Model 28s, 4" and 6"

2 Charter Arms, 2.5" and 4"

I'm always in the market for a used J-frame .357, and will never turn down a reasonably priced Model 27, 581, 586, or 520.

I'm also seriously considering a single-action army type handgun in .357...

You only have 4 .357s!:what: You shouldn't be thinking of selling some as surplus, you should be thinking of picking more up. (This said by someone with only 3, but I plan on rectifying that after I pick up a few other things)

I have a S&W 3" 13, S&W 4" 586, 18.5 1894C marlin. I am looking for a nice 19 P&R and a nice 3" 65 P&R, but funds are short since I am buying a K38 and a 1905 4th change.
